Scope Choice?

Post by lowndsie »

What scopes does everyone use on their varminting rifles?

I have a leupy vx3 3-10 x 40 with tactical adj. on my ruger vt 223 and a meuller 8.5-24 x 50ao erradicator on my vt 25/06.

Im starting to think that a 4-12 would be just about ideal for varminting purposes. Would still be fine for those bunnies that you get close to the spotlight while still having enough magnification for longer shots.

Cant fault the optics in the vx series i have a vx1 4-12x40 on my 22mag and a BSA 8-32x50 on the 22/250. Havent used the bsa out in the field yet but its nothing special pretty cheap and the optics are not really worth going past x22-x24 but does the job as i need the extra zoom for things 300m+. If you can get a vx2 or 3 you wont be dissapointed they are pretty damn good and you get a lifetime warranty.

Tascos :D I think a lot of people are not big fans of newer tascos some say the older ones were good but the new ones are not all that flash. That being said ive got a cheapie on the .22 and a 6x40 waiting to go on a 30/06 for deer hunting next season! Wiz may have come to the conclusion who needs a tasco when you have a ziess conquest

Yeah I have a tasco on my 22 and 303. They're ok for the money but they dont get used often. Wiz wont have a tasco anywhere near his locker, he's worried the rest of his scopes might catch the crap bug off it!!!

Nightforce will work better as a scope mate :D but hey you will be able to see what you would like to shoot   . But it is a 3.5-15X56 with the NP1 illuminated rectile on top of a 243wssm and I love it. They are a bit heavy but it works great and for what I want it for weight doesnt matter. The VXIII is siting there for a 17hmr project that I am planing to be honest so its not gunna go to waste.

Stewy have you had any accuracy problems with the wssm? There was a bit of talk of accelerated throat errosion in the .223 and .243's. Hows yours shooting? I see they are going pretty damn cheap these days, saw a browning abolt in 243wssm for $480 the other day couldnt believe it!
