Components of the rifle were sourced from forum members 'Blowmeup & jt'.
The rifle is a trued Remington 700 and I have been told that it was Giles personal 6mm, the stock is a McMillan that looks and feels more like a prone rifle and although it is nerving on the eye it is very comfortable. The barrel is a Lilja 4 groove profile no 7 chambered in 308 Win Match, 1 in 10 twist and necked to .340.
The stock was also once owned by Mick.
The rifle is also fitted with a 12-42 Nightforce BR (NP 2DD) and a 40 MOA NF rail.
I had intended to use this rifle as a back up Fly rifle and entry into 1000 yard BR- that was until my brother laid eyes upon it, having another trued Remington and an old Mauser chambered in .308 it wasn't hard to convince myself that I did not need another rifle.
Having taken the rifle to Silverdale for load development it was evident that the rifle was a shooter and from the 200 yard bench Mal belted out a 5 shot group that would have measured .338.
It was a Hummer and I had sold it before it was completed.
The load was developed utilising 155 Sierra Palma Match projectiles, 2208, CCI BR primers and Lapua Brass. The most impressive groups during load development from the 200 meter bench were using the Sierra's unfortunately I couldn't get any more Sierras and opted to use Berger 155.5s that I already had batched for the old Mauser.
Unfortunately the day of load development someone left the chrony at home.
Having arrived in Canberra on the Friday for a bit of practice before the Fly I zeroed the rifle at 500 meters and although the groups looked very impressive I wasn't certain as to whether I had got the load quiet right and as to whether they would run out of steam at 1000.
Having intended to use this rifle at the recent 1000 yard shoot in Canberra and arriving at the 1000 range a few people suggested to dial 18 MOA.
I had no idea where my first shot would land and certainly never expected the rifle to perform like it did on its maiden voyage.
