Guys , I must admit to being a bit disillusioned with this Nats quest , so i am removing my offer of support ( benchrest stand) .. Until one range that is acceptable in AUST offers up a viable championship event, with a concrete set of rules and date so travelers can plan their year around that ,i'm going to crawl back inside the safe walls of my club's yearly events .. This looks for all intense and purposes the way it will continue into the future ,it seems that the competitors just want compare themselves on a local platform anyhow ..Good shooting ..JR..Jeff Rogers
a.JR wrote:Hi All ,As some of you guys may have gathered by now i have a keen interest in Long Range BR , especially 1000yd .. I just wish that there was a National Championship event !!.. It would need to be in the center of the mass of shooters that favour this event ,so Sth NSW,Nth VIC or Canberra .. I for one would travel down and i know of 4 others from area that would but i think that it is to much to ask the majority to travel all the way up here .. It needs to be the best of the best shooting to make it a proper Nationals..I want to get to shoot with 35 to 50 blokes at one special event as opposed to my std club matchs .. It 's a big step to bundle up all my shit up to get there but for a Major like this i would put in a big effort to make it happen once a year.. To this end i would like to offer a contingency prize to any organizer from the above areas to use in any category they see fit .it is a custom billet alloy front rest ,made by me at home ,some commercial custom rests are valued at more than a $1000 this days .. Here's hoping this may stir someone into getting an event like this up and running in 2010 or 2011 ...JR..Jeff Rogers.. pic of front rest

That's not the case at all Jeff.
Timing is the only current issue. I'm almost certain Canberra would be happy to host it if we can do it June long weekend next year. It's really the only viable weekend of the year where there isn't a comp of some kind very close to the date. You'll also find most NRAA ranges have their range schedule booked in until 1st July this year. I'm just not sure people are happy to wait till next year.

.. Mick , you may well be right but the silence from the shooters on this site is deafening on this Nats issue.. Stupidly! i thought that this was a goer a bit back and my wife arranged her annual holidays and i booked flights early so i could take advantage of what small amount of money i have available .. Not happy Jan..If i didn't know any better i would think that some of the shooters in AUS are quite happy Not comparing groups and scores on a National basis..JR..Jeff Rogers..ps mabye i can have another look at the War Memorial in june .again

Hi Mick

Just wondering does it have to be a weekend? Can it be run over week days given most would have to take some amount of time off work to attend?

Hi Albow to run a shoot like that on a week day instead of a weekend may be the way to go for people who live close to the range ( within 4 hours drive ) it would only turn a normal weekend into a long weekend ( if the shoot was on a monday or friday ) for people like yourself and many others who have to travel 1000km or more they have to take time off work anyway -- and they can travel on the weekend -- your idea would let a shoot to be held sooner not later or never i for one would attend a during the week australian championship shoot where ever it is held :rifle: :rifle: john mc

You booked leave, flights and accommodation before anything was organised, confirmed or announced?

I guess there has been no progress towards a AUS champs??. I happy about the progress with my gun at present ,it sure would be nice to have a match to justify to costs of getting to actually butt heads (on targets) with you southerners..To tell ya truth the thing i miss the most about shooting in competition in the Nth is the numbers of competitors i get to see each match..JR..Jeff Rogers
