Now, the beam is a lot tighter than a regular reflector style torch - so you need to sweep the rifle around a lot more to cover the ground. Here is a shot of the beam shining on the side of a hill about 100m away. You can still sort of make out the square shape, and the spot is around 8m wide.

Lit this poor little bugger up - he won't see for a week. The flowering gums were out and the smell of honey was all around them.
I had the torch running for two hours, only turned it off a few times when I shot a bunny and reverted to the head light to gut them. The light doesn't get hot, hardly even warm and I could not notice any dimming of the beam over that period. I'd been playing with it for about 30mins since I got it, and it was still on the same battery, so I know it's good for at least 2.5 hours with a full charge.
Overall, I think it's a good torch if you were wanting a little more reach than a reflector style, or for hunting in open country. The lack of spill means you don't see objects right in front of you was well - if I'd hunted my other spot in the thick granite I'd have been tripping up a bit I reckon. It would also be a great torch for shooting from the ute. Perhaps a little tight for close range work such as with an air rifle or .22 - you really need to sweep it around a lot more than a floodier torch to spot game at closer ranges.
