What a load of frigging bullshit - I have a safe full of guns, only one is a HMR. I've had great results with my HMR over many, many trips out with it. So of course I will sing its praises. Sorry if that offends anyone that hasn't learned to use theirs to good effect (or who has never used one....)

when i agreed with you in that post to start of with you begin to parade photo's of that pig then slag me on my abilities and your big surprise comments and that foxes in my areas must be tougher..... and maybe the are.
Where's the "slagging off"? I see no "slagging off" at you in that thread. Nor do you raise any issue with me re. "slagging off." Where have I "questioned your abilities"?? So what exactly has upset you about that particular thread? Maybe if your foxes are so much tougher than elsewhere you better forget the whole rimfire fox gun idea - just use the .204. (though it seems now that my memory is refreshed that doesn't always put your prehistoric dinofoxes down either....)

No, not at all. Earlier in the thread you accused the admin. of the forum (who pays the bills and set the place up....) of being narrow minded and so on, now you are having a crack at me 'cos of some apparent (and imaginary) slight against you ages ago.
It's not that you are new, it's just that the way you have conducted yourself in this thread, you come off as an impolite, insulting sook.

Re: is 22 magnum better on fox then a hummer?
I was going to rebarrel my ruger 77-22 WMR to 17 HMR but after seeing the accuracy potential of the 17HMR diminish after 50 yards (according to several posts on this forum as well as others) I realised there was no point. The hummer seems to group tighter, but really IMHO all rimfires should be limited to 100 yards if you are after foxes as NONE of them really carry enough energy to be reliably humane. I've shot foxes and hares past 100 with my 22WMR, but I tend to use it up to about 70, and have my 204 in hand if I think i'm going to be shooting a lot past that. Even up to 50 yards a HMR owner and myself were thoroughly outshot by my mate with his custom bruno 22LR one evening on bunnies...
Anyone viewing this debate I would suggest the following:
Have a 22WMR and like it, don't change it.
Don't like your 22WMR, or are in the market for a rimfire, buy a HMR and be done with it
want to shoot regularly past 100 yards on foxes & hares, get a CF
I'm sure eventually one of the big manufacturers will jump on a hornet-30 carbine sized cartridge in 20 cal (or something similar), simply as they can't really squeeze many more 7/.30/338 short wankedy-dank magnums into the market place, and they sure could market something to fill that niche between bigger case CF's and the rimfires (whether we actually need it or not!)

Re: is 22 magnum better on fox then a hummer?
that would be nice but i reckon a 20 rimfire would stir things up or a 20 ppc or even a 20 hornet sized case but rimless.dantheman wrote:me too would like to see 204 fire ball.

I've got a 6.5mm rimfire round in my collection, that would have been interesting
Any one heard of a .22 Floppit? I cant find any info on the net about it.

Posted a link to one in ammo section the otherday. Comes in .17/.20/.22/6mm. These is also Calhoon Badger, all are based on 30carbine cases.feralbuster wrote:I'm sure eventually one of the big manufacturers will jump on a hornet-30 carbine sized cartridge in 20 cal (or something similar), simply as they can't really squeeze many more 7/.30/338 short wankedy-dank magnums into the market place, and they sure could market something to fill that niche between bigger case CF's and the rimfires (whether we actually need it or not!)

Dan, thats the 20 vartarg, which is highly rated, and considered the most efficient sized case for the 20 cal bullets.dantheman wrote:me too would like to see 204 fire ball.
Fellas, keep the slanging matches to a minimum can ya. This has always been the Gentlemen's forum IMHO, and you can have good debates without getting 'personal'. at the end of the day, all these forums are just a collection of opinions, backed up by more or less facts and experiences. What works for one bloke might not work for another, or for their shooting style or whatever. Unlike a letter to Uncle Nick, for example, a forum allows you to collect a consensus of opinions, and therein is a true purpose of a forum
