They did years ago. It was called the 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum. It would be hugely popular now if they chambered some rifles for it and made some ammo.

it's tempting to go the 22 mag. does anyone know what bore diametre they are? .222 .223 or .224

I rate the 22mag as a better fox round than the 17HMR but it isn't a 150m fox round.

22 hornet is .223

Was years ago but just about everyone has been using .224 barrels for the the hornet the last 50years.

I tired 50 grain loads in my anchultz (i think its spelt wrong dont kill me! ) they weren't that accurate, im guessing because of the slower twist barrel, though they weren't keyholing

Depends how far away you want to shoot them - or how far over their head you want to aim.

Dunno why you take such an issue with the HMR - nobody is making you buy one. In fact you aren't even speaking from personal experience with one in the field, correct? (yeah we know, you have seen a few poking holes in paper at the range)

Where I shoot they want their pests destroyed - not left around to breed.

Anyway, that one happened to present itself at an opportune time when we were out after foxes and cats - the chance to shoot a small pig with the .17HMR was too good to pass up - sow or no sow.
