They did years ago. It was called the 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum. It would be hugely popular now if they chambered some rifles for it and made some ammo.andrewk wrote:they should have made a 20 cal hummer

I rate the 22mag as a better fox round than the 17HMR but it isn't a 150m fox round.
Was years ago but just about everyone has been using .224 barrels for the the hornet the last 50years.andrewk wrote:22 hornet is .223

Im guessing 1:16 like 22.lr as the standard load is 40 grains.andrewk wrote:what twist rate are 22 magnums usually?
I tired 50 grain loads in my anchultz (i think its spelt wrong dont kill me! ) they weren't that accurate, im guessing because of the slower twist barrel, though they weren't keyholing

The 17HMR is the comma to the fullstop of the 22WMR.

Bloody HMR's are shit on foxes.
Useless - you need to sneak the pill into the corner of their eye - and if they blink that little 17gr pill will bounce off the eyelid!
One guy on some forum was saying that his HMR bounces off a rabbit's rib bones. Needs to pull the trigger harder!

Depends how far away you want to shoot them - or how far over their head you want to aim.native hunter wrote:Dont see anything in them pics a 22lr or magnum could not do.???

Dunno why you take such an issue with the HMR - nobody is making you buy one. In fact you aren't even speaking from personal experience with one in the field, correct? (yeah we know, you have seen a few poking holes in paper at the range)
Say what?Rumpus wrote:Poor little SOW... Let em go!!
Where I shoot they want their pests destroyed - not left around to breed.
Anyway, that one happened to present itself at an opportune time when we were out after foxes and cats - the chance to shoot a small pig with the .17HMR was too good to pass up - sow or no sow.
