20 cal berger bullets

Post by dangaff »

I thought i would have a browse on the Berger bullet's website, noticed they have a decent range of 20 cal projectiles ranging from 30-55 grain, a few with boat tails.

Are there not many available in Australia and that's why there not popular?

I thought maybe some long range work with the flat shooting 204 would go alright with the boat tail heavier bullets.

Anyone know?

Thanks

uh huh, there's the problem

I always see people suggesting 39grn Blitzking's?

Any other good bullets go good with the 204?

40 and 32 gr vmax's works a treat through my tikka. 40's for long range bunny busting and 32's (when its not too windy) spotlighting hard and flat for 200m.

The bergers are the most accurate pill in my rifle, .1s and less if the wind dosen't blow them.
I just got 1000 40s for $43 a box. There's a 2-3 month wait between shipments and they seem to be all sold by the time they arrive in Oz.
The sieras are good but have very thin jackets that rupture if you push them too hard. The last lot of 39 SBKs cost me $60/100.

G'day dangaff,
the 50's perform v well in my 20-250 but I use 40g v-maxes and 34g nosler shots in my Pracs. So much cheaper and do a great job.Still trying to get the importers to bring in some 55g Bergers to try.

Yeah i will be using a 204 ruger once i get my full license, just wondering why everyone use's the Blitzking's, i guess there consistently accurate.

So other bullets do run good through the 204 not just the blitzking's?

Can you run heavier pills through them, or need a new twist rate?

Unless you have a 1:10 twist barrel, your 204 wont stabilise the 50 and 55gr bullets. The 39gr SBK is the go to bullet in 204's. Factory rifles sometimes struggle to stabilise the 40gr pill but I havent heard of one having issues with the 39grSBK. Yes they are expensive but shop around and you will find some at a better price. If you want to launch the 55gr bullets with their wicked BC, then a 20BR is the go.

Yeah may as well just upgrade completely if i want the extra grains, was looking at a 223 AI maybe for future semi custom project or something.

Rem 700 police - something along those lines would go alright, nice short barrel.

Anyway, back to 204, yeah the price on the SBK's shouldnt be too much of a problem, i have only heard good things about them and they seem to work in every 204.

No, a 50 gn 20 cal pill is a whole different thing than a 50gn 224 pill
