Hi guys.
I was wondering on the availability of factory ammo in the 6mmbr Norma range. I know it is being made by Norma and Lapua but can we get it?
I am interested in building a walk about/sometimes range shooting outfit for general varmint long distance fun and the occasional range competition. I would not expect it to be a comp winner but it is more for the learning curve.
I am not a reloader and this would be the calibre I would start reloading for.
Is the best way to go a Remington or Sako action and get it trued or should I get something already built for the job?
Any advice is appreciated fellas. Lots of questions, I know.
6mmbr questions
At $160 per 100 rounds, i don't think to many people buy loaded ammo.
A good excuse to buy a reloading kit & start, 6br is the easiest round to load for & lapua brass needs no fiddling with, just load & shoot.
My sako feeds great from magazine & the short remington may need some magazine mods if you want a repeater, otherwise a single stack tikka mag will do the job.
I you build a 6br, you will quickly lose interest in the rest of your gunsafe, these things are just fun.
cheers DT

Nice scope! I have a 4200 series 4-16 on my .223 but I like the side focus idea much more. I didn't know they made them, but there is a new 6-24x50 side focus available now with that all important American word, "Tactical."
I am thinking either a Bushnell or spoil myself and keep saving for a Nightforce. Where did you get the side focus model, DT?

Dave,
I considered the nightforce as well, but couldn't justify the extra cost as well as having to buy another set of rings. I saved enough to buy a nice 17hmr which my leopold 6-18 will go on.
Got the scope from theopticzone.com for us$437 plus postage (haven't done the conversion yet). Still cheaper than the $950 aus that the locals wanted.
The beauty with the side focus is the compact size, i think its based on a 3.5-10 body( or similar, not sure) which means it fits on low rings & doesn't look bulky.
Here's a piccy from when i was doing some load testing & was shooting the tails off the cable-ties with my fouling shots. Thats whats so good with the 6br!!!!
