spotlighting and scopes

Post by doidge5781 »

For those of you who spotlight im looking at building a new allround rifle and deciding on a scope it will be used for everything from varminting to close scrub work on pigs as well as spotlighting around home. Is a 50mm objective really necessary or should i buy a better qaulity 40/42/44mm scope budget will be around $5-600 US. Had my eye on a clearidge 4.5-22.5,bushnell elite 3200 5-15,bushnell elite 6500 2.5-16 and the weaver tactical or super slam in 3-15

From your list I would go the Bushnell 6500 in my opinion a stand out in that crowd.

In a lot of cases the 50mm objective is no advantage as it is the quality of the glass/coatings that decide most of the light transmission. That said I have 3 x 50mm objective scopes all 30mm tubes. All my scopes serve on spotlighting duty.2x40mm.1x42mm and 3x 50mm and all work

Im another one for the 6500, or the Clearidge as long as its the XP5

What about a VX3 or VX-3L with Illuminated reticle, you can get them from TOZ

Another option is the Ziess conquest
