The chance to head for Tenterfield and some rabbit hunting came up so Friday early we were packed and off. Got there around lunch and there was a few showers around. This was good as the rabbits tend to get out and about abit earlier.
A quick sighting in session as I had swapped the Simmons 6.5-20 x 50AO on my Rapid for a Simmons 2.5-8x36. Took some size and weight off. I was very happy with the result. Plenty of power for hunting and no fannying around with the AO.
Then it was off for a short walk with the little fellow and within a 1/2 hr we had 2 good rabbits in the bag. Suffered from the old Buck fever on the first shot and gave the rabbit pierced ears. Next shot straight to the head. The second one was facing me and sitting up. Put in a heart shot which was spot on, and of course it ran for 5 metres before dropping dead in its tracks.
After a few sessions over the next few days I ended up with about 16 bunnies and a ferral cat. Most were under spotlight, that being my Fenix TK11 R2. The Rapid was shooting really well and the head shots kept coming.
The first night I spotted the eyes of a large tom sitting on a rock about 60 metres away. Switched the light of and moved in 10 or so metres to get a better shooting spot from an old log. Got so excited in the dark I tripped as I climbed over or onto the log and fell arse over. Kept the Rapid safe as you do. Anyway regained my composure and back on with the light. Sure enough the cat was still sitting there. A JSB Exact to the head and down it came. A big grey and silver tom. Every time I go there I get a large Tom cat. Didn't get a picture unfortunately.
A good few days away with plenty of rabbits and a ferral. All good.

Re: Tenterfield days
The AirArms S410 .22 Carbine was leaving England in an order last week apparently, so shouldn't be far away. Looking forward to getting it. Should have all the things I like. The shot count is not great, but for hunting will be fine. They have a power adjuster on the side of the action so can back it off, which will be good for rats, as the Rapid and Hornet are a bit hard on sheds. I think low is in the 600 fps range and right up should be good for 950 fps. Also on low the shot count skyrockets. Has a quick fill, a guage, side lever 10 shot. The US forums talk highly of them. Well worth a look, I think. Should be around the $1300 mark in beech.
