JSB Monster 25.4 gr .22 pellets some results

Post by Yrrah »

I finally got to shoot a few of these from the BSA Hornet .
Neither day was good. The first was the day the dust storm blew in and the wind was severe. I tried to pick the absolutely best moments and these were the best of the few groups shot at 55 yards / 50 metres:
At 895 fps or 45.2 fpe

This last week we have been at the farm up north. As you know winter returned, it blew, it rained ( good), it hailed; again I tried to pick the very best of it between jobs and shot these at 51, 71 and 82 yards.

The little arrows point to what I think the POI orientation of each shot was and may be evidence of some instability in the wind at the longer range.

They are not great groups but not so bad for hunting accuracy I guess. I have been in contact with the Principals at JSB and made some suggestions which have been well received. The pellets are being sold now around the world with mixed reports. My suggestions seem to have been taken on board and JSB are continuing to work on some possible changes to the pellet.

Sunday afternoon I went to a neighbour's farm at his request and shot eight rabbits with these Monsters from 43 yards , the longest shots were 76, 84 and 93 yards. The pellets just blew through some big bunnies.

So, mixed feelings; solid hunting accuracy I guess but not the fine precision I was hoping to make use of at extreme range....... We will see what Pavel comes up with in the further exploration and development of this pellet.

Tomorrow, FedEx will deliver to me a sample of the long awaited .25 cal "Kings" for testing. These are the same profile of all the "Exacts" that we know so well and are also 25.4 gr weight. So, the .25 BSA John Bowkett barrel goes back on the JB OZ 1 Hornet for some testing this coming weekend perhaps. ( You may recall I tested the barrel with .25 Kodiaks some time ago and got half inch groups at 50 yards. I'm hoping for better from the JSBs and better at the extreme ranges too. Well that's it for the present but if the .25s hold up we will hammer Lewis and Rob Potter to get some for all of us who shoot .25s.

Kind regards, Yrrah

Sorry, that was a typo ... 45.2 fpe ..
I corrected some spelling too, added a bit and signed off.

I must go to bed as I have had a big week of work up New England and a long drive home last night ... Kind regards, Harry.
