I have never used one And have a penchant for having one. so I am after some opinions.As in is the trigger adjustable and what sort of accuracy is obtainable.You know just the usual stuff.

The trigger of the newer ones is not particularly adjustable. For the price of a Jewell in a bolt gun, you can get a very schmick adjustable jobbie (Kepplinger) from the US. Take a look at Brownells website.

For varmit use you may want to consider a lightened hammer and stiffer spring as well (reduces lock time). Also available from Brownells.

My 4 Ruger No. 1 rifles are plenty accurate for their use.

The 6.5x47Lapua is still being worked on, so the best I've got from it is 5 into 1.2in @ 100m. Considering I haven't even finished the mannlicher style stock yet, thats acceptable.
The 300H&H will put 3 165gn NBTs into .75in @ 100 any time I want from a cold barrel. This with a 3-9 scope.
The 338 Win Mag will put 3 225gn Sierras into the target less than an inch, usually touching in one big cloverleaf. This with a 2.5-8 scope.
The 375H&H will put 3 250gn Sierras into the target well under 1.5in with a 1-4x scope. I suspect the accuracy here has as much to do with me as it has to do with the rifle. Those muthas HURT when they go down range at 2700fps.

They are an accurate HUNTING rifle. Don't believe the crap uninformed folks will try to lay down as these rifles are plenty good enough for hunting purposes, but they are not benchrest guns by any means. My 223 No. 1 would shoot 5 52gn Amax bullets into less than an inch whenever I wanted it to. Considering I did nothing with that rifle but float the barrel and work out a load, I'm happy with that.

There are things that you can do to make them more accurate and if you buy one, let me know and we can get together for a workshop. I've always had a soft spot for a 1B in 25/06. The single largest problem with a No.1 is that the scope is mounted further forward than a bolt gun, making long eye relief (or a long tube aft of the adjustment turret) necessary.

PS. Shane has a brand new 24" 22/250 Varmit barrel for one.
PPS. I have a used, but not abused 26" 223 Remington 1B barrel for one.

I have long regretted not buying a stainless/laminated stock 1V in .204 when they were being made. Too late now as they are no longer listed and I doubt whether anyone who owns one will be selling it soon.

Thanks Hiwall that just burst my balloon.As far as a 1v goes.But how do you think a 1B in 204 would go.

A 1B will still have a heavy barrel relative to the hole down the middle. The muzzle of the 1B is 0.62in - not a lightweight sporter by any means.

My 223 was a 1B and it was plenty accurate for smacking bunnies and foxes. Try contacting Nioa to see if they have a K1V or K1B in stock - you might be surprised.

I have located a 1B at what I think a reasonable price.I think the 1B may be better or easier to fit the Burris with its 3.5 inch eye relief.The review I read on the 1V said you would need a scope with long eye relief.

The mounts are in exactly the same place - just the 1V does not have a rib.

3.5inch may or may not work depending on where the back of the scope is relative to the butt.

Offset rings are available for the No.1.

Just out of interest I saw a model 1 .223 at a gunshop in sydney the other day, it was in great nick and apparently they can be accurised very well. One of the range officers at st marys has one.
