Q
if an air rifle is a gun that operates on a pneumatic system then why does it fall into a FIREarms licence category?
technicaly for a gun to be called a "FIRE"arm it must use gunpowder
shoulden't it!
if im wrong then why don't you need a licence for a bow & arrow?
and it shoots further and is deadlier than an airgun.

Re: AIR rifle
That's the way it was legislated so that's the way it is. It won't change so we live with it. .... If we handle them responsibly we will continue to shoot with air. If too many clowns continue to plink their neighbour's pussy cats and the vet surgeons extract the pellets we will lose out. If too many nut cases shoot at birds in suburban trees, we will get to read about it in the papers and we lose out. Pellets travel up to 800 metres from some air rifles and even the weaker ones will go 400 m when shot at around 30 degrees elevation ( a common tree bird shot ). .... If some yobbo does something stupid give him a mouthful and let him know where you stand on stupidity ........... Enjoy your shooting while we can and join the SSAA and The Shooters' Party. They are the only things standing between us and shooting oblivion .. Kind regards, Harry.
