Re: Lightforce HID Conversion Kits
R u planning on a genuine LF conversion kit or one of the E-gay kits?
I have seen online Handy people do a type of conversion with a Hid 4300K headlight kit
There are/were several posts about it on the "candlepower" forum
Its a forum for torch/light freaks
I have seen some screen shots of the results and they look bright- but all of them seem to say you have to manage the heat problems or your handle will melt
Fenring or maybe better yet his mate Harddrive might be the guys to sling a PM to asking
There was some info recently on this on AHN also

I run my 240 with a HID bulb.ogre6br wrote:I have seen some screen shots of the results and they look bright- but all of them seem to say you have to manage the heat problems or your handle will melt
HID bulbs run cooler for any output wattage than the incandesent bulbs.
My 35w (soon to be 50w) HID kitted RM240 is cool to the touch after 4 hours of driving around the paddock. The 100w handheld SL240 is fetting quite warm after 20 mintues.
The 35w unit throws more light than the 100w factory bulb and allows a slightly greater spotting distance.
Re: Lightforce HID Conversion Kits
I have found the same results as adamjp with my HID SL240.
I got mine of ebay, I have run 2 SL240's side by side, one had
the HID conversion, I could see a mob of pigs on the other side
of a paddock one night with it, and the non converted 240 couldn't
throw its beam far enough to see the mob of porkers.
The only downside I found, if you could call it that, was that HID's
beam has to stay narrow, if you adjust it to widen the spot you get
a black area to one side of your viewing area.

Re: Lightforce HID Conversion Kits
Most good LGS should have the genuine kits mate. I had a look at a converted 240 recently and it was very impressive.andrewk wrote:so where do you get the conversion from?
My only concern is that the HID kits might be producing too much light and spooked game could result. Does anyone have an opinion on this?

Re: Lightforce HID Conversion Kits
I agree James as we have found with the Powerbeams when rabbits are in the edge of the beam they seem to stand better than when centered. These are 150 w spotlights and as you have seen on many occasions foxes can be seen to 400m and rabbits on SHORT GREEN grass are easy to see beyond 17Hmr range.
Keith in my opinion Get a Powerbeam and save your money for more shooting trips

My experience is that goes for any animal - except the dumb ones.MISSED wrote:when rabbits are in the edge of the beam they seem to stand better than when centered.

i agree with james, pigs in my area could be scared off with a brighter light.but you can buy a dimmer switch for them.If it was me id put the money towards a better quality scope
