hello,
there is a BSA monarch on usedguns at the moment....
anybody had any experience with these..
its only $480.. would it be an alright deal?
or is this a gun to stay away from?

Hope your not looking for something cheap as after years of doing it cheaply, I have realised you get what you pay for with firearms.

Few 223's there and you will be able to get ammo for a 223 almost anywhere. 204 or 22-250 has a bit more range for you to play with....

If you want to stay with the 222, I would look seriously at the zastava M85- the mini mauser actions are usually very accurate and these rifles have a fairly good rep. Plus being brand new, you know exactly what it has and hasnt done.

Apart from that it doesnt look too bad, although make sure you can get the magazine spring if you are going to go for it. Remember you will have to pay transfers etc too.

Nothing wrong with the 222rem and I would hardly call it hard to find ammo for it.

Mate don't buy the BSA buy the Remington for a little bit extra. So much better and looks to be in better nick as well. You need a new mag spring for the BSA and good luck finding one I dont know how rare BSA parts are these days but I'd offer the guy with the Rem 788 a little less or buy the Zastava.

I could be wrong, but wasn't the .222 the weapon of chioce for the pro roo shooters. I would very sus of a second hand rifle, especially if its coming from an area with high roo populations.

Had a BSA once

410 with bb`s would group better. The problem with the 788 Rem is that it is a rear locker in a Hardwood stock.And yes I know some have been made into target rifles but at what cost?Andrew go the Zastava.

thanks guys.. not really looking for the cheapest.
looking at a cz 527 .223 in left hand.. bit over budget but from what i have read should be worth it..
but we will see what happens.

Now your thinking clearly, I've won heaps of comps with my 527 in the last 10 years, it is a supierior rifle to the BSA. Get it get it get it

I know a guy who takes groundhogs (lets just say they are a bit smaller than foxes for you aussies) out to 300 yards with his .222 Rem.

The price difference between a good rifle and a shit rifle is bugger all in the long run.

G'day mate.
I am having a BSA CF2 rebarreled again in 222.
It is a beautiful looking rifle, mauser style action and cheap to buy 'cos they arent in favour any more.
Will post the finnished results and performance when i get it.
Ask an old benchrester if the ol 222 is any good.
