I was just wondering if anybody else has an interest in bolt action military rifles of the world wars ? I currently have a Springfield 03A3 30-06 and have on order a Mosin Nagant which il mount a 4 pwr scope on. Anybody else got any they care to share with the rest of us ? cheers Ron

Yes Ron, I have a Mosin Nagent M91/30 & a Lee Enfield No 1 MkIII*, gotta say they are my favorite rifles & very accurate with iron sights out to 100m or so, when the .303 starts shooting high & left, & the mosin high & right, or maybe it's my old eyes struggling without a scope

I'm very interested in getting the K98 Mauser.

I'm fond of the older stuff Ron and have had my share of surplus rifles over the years.
I've owned a .30/06 Columbian carbine that kicked like zebra, an 8mm Turkish mauser, had a .303 LE no idea what model it was but I'm sure there was a 1940's something date on it.
I bought a 6.5x55 1900 Orbendorf mauser 22 years ago for $125 off a bloke cause I needed something quick for a pig hunt and have kept that one and used it SSAA comps. I had the bolt handle lenghtened about 6mm and bent down, I should of left it alone.

very nice piece of wood knackers and i'm not talking about the block of red gum. don't see many old service rifles in that condition.

ps, i shot a 30-06 columbian carbine and thought it was a pussy cat compared to sporter 06's i've shot. might have been the totally flogged barrel that made the difference.

Thats good to know there are other members interested in riles of the past like i am. Cruisey i too use to have an old mk1 303, bought it from HPGS for $99 back 23yrs ago and did the old refurb thing. My Mate is a dealer and is currently bringing about 30 mosin Nagants in to the country a long with some K98s. He got me hooked on the mosin buy showing me videos of you tube Yanks shooting these out to 1000yards with 4 pwr scopes. Cant wait till they arrive, not saying im gonna do that but will shoot at distance and see if i can atleast come close to these vids. Knackers nice 6.5 x 55 i read an artical on these, that will be the next one after the Nagant. Keep em comming, il ask NH if he will post some photos of my 03A3 for me. Cheers Ron

I have recently disposed of a small but high quality collection of Lee Enfield rifles - was a bit sad about it, but was starting to neglect them - better to pass them on to somebody who still has the desire to preserve them as deserved. Have kept only two, (my 'shooters') a '41 Lithgow No1 MkIII (no star), which means it was fitted with the mag cutoff. It was FTR'd in '45 by Lithgow with one of their heavy barrels. The other I have kept is a Savage No4 Mk1* - built in the big production run sometime in '43. Was sent to NZ where it was stamped with the NZ markings and put in store. In beautiful nick, a lovely old rifle. Both have target aperture sights which can be easily fitted for range shooting.

Fenring, have you ever fired the M44 at night ? Very impressive muzzle blast !

Yeah, with some surplus ammo it even flames in broad daylight.

Not to mention the recoil mate, thank god that steel buttplate absorbs most of it ! I'm working out some handloads & fired off 50 rounds last Saturday through the M91/30 with good results, the shoulder was a bit tender though on Sunday morning great fun to shoot though.
