Thank you, gentlemen. I had never considered carded flece as being strong enough to act as a collecting medium but if there is enough depth.......what a good idea. There is an old polyester-filled doona thing around here somewhere and some very heavy wall plastic pipe to put it in so I might give that a try and see what happens.

The more teased out and looser the fleece the better. If you stuff it compressed into a pipe it stops the pellets fine but they do tend to get bent a tad. 6 inch diameter pipe is better than smaller pipe. I do use pipe but prefer to have it in one or two shopping bags depending on velocity/ distance.

Compressed into an appropriate box greasy wool makes a good and almost silent backstop. I started using it about 40 years ago for that purpose. .......... Kind regards, Harry.

Further to the above. Here is a revised explanation: I think that the pellets in the photo were chambered and pushed into the bore not fired.

The pellet pushed into the normal rifling ( of a rifle with barrel complete ), far enough to engage the rifling, was then pushed back out with a rod that perhaps had the cleaning attachment removed.
Note the shiny semi- circular "ring" on the pellet head.

Then as the pressure was off centre on the head, the head of the pellet was shaved by the transfer port on the way back out thus removing the rifling marks and leaving a large shaved area. In any case, regardless of how it happened, the damage is certainly not "normal" and it is remiss of the caption to imply such. ........... Kind regards, Harry.[/quote]

I managed to find the article initially did not think I had bought the copy and I think you spot on Harry. I reckon the mark is made by the open female end of a cleaning rod.

Hilly, as Harry says don't restrict the wool or polyester. If it passes out the end you need more. Sometimes I've resorted to digging out the metal detector to find a slug in a king size before now btw.

I think they show good promise Harry, first group 5 shot group at 55yds measures 12mm edge to edge, four going into 9mm edge to edge. Second group went to pot due to operator error. I have enough left for another mag on a perfectly still day. They match the 16gn version accuracy wise at 55yd and hopefully wil hold together better at long range for that 1moa group reward. Our shipment is on its way to the uk apparently, can't wait.

That's 33.65 fpe for the 18.1 gr compared to 32.88 fpe for the 15.9 gr. I think you will enjoy them. From my two Hornets they shoot pretty much the same groups from 840 fps to 1015 fps.
They are sub MOA 100 yd pellets on any reasonable day; or night .......

Thanks Harry, I think your right, big movers and shakers throwing their rattle out of the pram to get sole import. No reason these could not have been in the uk months ago from smaller importers if allowed under the jsb brand imo.
