I think there are a few of us.
If you are serious about learning to shoot well with a pistol a 22 or better still an air pistol is the place to start.
By all means have a go with the centrefires they're great fun but learning the basics on an air pistol will highlight any triggering and sighting mistakes you might be making. Recoil makes it impossable to watch what the sights are doing before, during and after you squeeze the trigger.

Go for it you'll have fun for sure.

Shooting handguns is cheap as hell. I bought 5000 9mm projectiles for $160. I cant get 500 decent rifle projectiles for that. Primers are half the price, and 1kg of powder has lasted me over a year and still going.

I've got a Beretta 92FS and a Sig Mosquito. I'm not too seriously into it, more for fun.

Casting my own projectiles I can load centrefire rounds cheaper than I can by 22lr if you don't factor in labour costs.

1/2kg of powder will do over 2000 rounds
the most expensive component is the primer.

Even the cost to set up for casting projectiles isn't much, you can set up from scratch for less than $100.

You blokes have secrets of which i know not, costs me heaps for ammo alone, only fire about 100-200 rounds a shoot aswell in the usual comstock/prac pistol match

Mate are you reloading? If you aren't then you should be, on average i am paying-
$35.00 for 500 projies
$39 to $45 for 1000 primers
cases for 38spl are only $55 for a 1000 (once fired and good quality fiochi stuff).
powder is only about $40 for a pound (over 3000 reloads  )

Works out to be around 13 cents a shot!!

9mm would be even less i reckon!!

BTW, how do you find the Norinco? Thinking of using krudds donation to buy one next month!

Just need to reload

Projectiles are the dearest component but quality hard cast don't cost anymore than 10c at the most I cast my own using old projectiles picked up from the range so not factoring labour they cost me less than 1 cent.
Primers are the next dearest component last lot I purchased cost $180 for 5000 3.6 cents each
Powder is the cheapest a 500g tin is just over 7700gr. I'm loading 3.4gr to make power factor for service. Thats approx 2250 loads to a tin at $30.00 thats 1.3 cents per load.

Home cast Projectile $0.010
Primer $0.036
Powder $0.013
Total close enough to 6 cents per shot

even if you were paying 10c for projectiles it still only comes to 15 cents per shot so $30.00 for 200 rounds.

It serves me awesomely, From new the trigger needed work and a full length guide rod was put in but it still shot reasonable then, ive put a new trigger, springs, sights, combat hammer, ambi safety all in and it goes like a dream. Warning though mate the edges are sharp as shit when new

One of the guys at our club has one of these, never seen it shoot all that well, always having ejection probs, might be a fussy eater i think.
