Re: Federal Cup Fly Results - See Competition Results
tiger,
Thanks for posting the results mate and for running a great shoot. Everyone had a good time and the numbers involved could have seen it all go south without the efforts of yourself, Jim, Mick, Richard and co.
The 1k was just as well run and with 32 shooters was over in good time with again everyone having a good day.
Keep up the great work.
cheers
Rinso

Re: Federal Cup Fly Results - See Competition Results
G'day Rinso, Happy to hear that the 1000 ran well the next day, what were your thoughts regarding
running the set up 4 benches shooting and 4 setting up?
Shortly we will have 10 benches, so will be able to run 5 and 5, should save some time and
make the day go a fair bit faster.
Cheers
Dave.

FWIW, and not trying to infringe on Rinso’s response, but from what I saw on Sunday, I think there were a number of contributing factors that led to the successful running of the 1000yd BR match.
Not in any order or priority, but the allocation of two benches to one frame meant that there was no delay between details, as one competitor could be setting up and ready to go while the other person was still shooting. This also meant that gear shifting or removal from benches was eliminated or minimised.
Also, there were very few competitors who req’d more than one shot in the initial sighting period to get on paper. Additionally, there was little delay in moving from the initial sighting period to the 6 min sighter period and then to the record target. In the morning, Mick and Anthony were right on the ball, in keeping everybody informed of what was required and when they needed to be ready to shoot. I assume this was repeated in the afternoon.
The provision of competitor nomination sheets ( completed by each individual) was of great assistance with target identification and scoring and also made it clear to markers as to whether people were shooting HG,LG blind or marked etc. Team work in the butts was also evident.
Not trying to be “smart” but I also think that with so many people shooting blind, meant that in general, the time req’d to complete the groups was also reduced. The exception being people like myself ( and probably only myself) who on one occasion, ended up using the full 10 minutes for the record target.
Prior preparation and work by the Canberra members ( which is greatly appreciated) to targets, etc etc also contributed and saved time.
IMO, I also believe that the fact that all people were prepared to assist and help without being asked and general positive tone of the day were also contributing factors to allowing so many shooters to be able to be processed in such a minimal time, when compared to previous occasions.
cheers

no mate, i had not forgotten, i was just not sure if you wanted to be reminded of that 1st shot after the looooong wait.
in the butts there was a lot of interest in your target at the time, with us, hoping that the shot would be in the group.
in the prevailing conditions, i thought you did well to keep it on paper, and the following shot or shots, as i think i informed you later, certainly, all went back into the cluster.
like you, whilst i enjoy the fly, i find that there is something about 1000yd IBS BR that makes it more appealing.
cheers

Re: Federal Cup Fly Results - See Competition Results
I spoke to Rinso a night or two ago and from the glowing report he gave me about both the Fly and 1K at Canberra, i think a few of us northerners might be trekking down in September. The idea of a two day match with so many competitors is very appealing to a few of us at the minute as it is unlikely we will hold any matches this year, if ever.
Who can we contact to nominate now as i hear some were turned away after a 66 entry Fly field?
Jethro Bodine.

Re: Federal Cup Fly Results - See Competition Results
tiger,
The 4 x 4 system was great IMHO it allowed shooters to set up gear without rushing or holding a detail up, great idea.
Coupled with the target score sheets in the butts which saves time and confusion at that end I think the Canberra 1k is just getting better and better.
I agree with dg also that all the shooters having the right attitude to getting in and getting things done along with the organisers/club members at Canberra putting in such an effort adds up to the whole shoot being very relaxed and enjoyable. Having the extra benchs will certainly help things along even more.
I gave Mick some more 600yd targets and the current 600yds rules, would be interested to know what you blokes think of the 600yd match.

Re: Federal Cup Fly Results - See Competition Results
At the Pro-Cal Fly in September we hope to use 25 benches, so with three details that
will mean we can take 75 shooters (75 targets anyway, if we get too many people, we might
have to ask some more people to only shoot one class rather than two)
Last year at the March Fly, I did the competitor sheets overnight to keep track of the targets
and used them to do the bench draw, this time I gave them to Mick and the Competitors filled them
out for themselves, much easier for Mick and puts the onus on the competitor to make
sure that the details are right, as DG said, it organises the people in the butts, and cuts
down on the communication needed between the markers and the range officer.
We've just got to make some time to run the 600yd match maybe one Sunday when the range
is not in use, we've been doing a few things between the F-Class boys and the 1KBR people,
but it's mostly the same people. Do you guys reckon that you'd be interested in coming
along if we ran it?
We don't have any really good benches for the 600yd mound though, could probably only scrape
together 3 or 4 decent ones.
Cheers

Dave
If you can get a 600yd match going I will be there! Bells on!
It would be good to if it could be made into a 2 day shoot.. Saturday/Sunday.. with any combination of 500m Fly, 1000yds, 600yds, or 200m Rimfire Fly! I dont care if it is two of the same shoot! It just gives me a little more incentive to turn up, but I need very little anyway.. its just my Work that seems to shaft me.. but that place buys the guns and ammo!
So yes... do it!
Cheers

Re: Federal Cup Fly Results - See Competition Results
G'day Dave,
Thanks to yourself and others for making the Federal Cup shoot a great day. I am looking forward to the Pro-Cal.
If I can find some more confidence (and 20moa elevation), I'll have to give 1000yds a try. I am also keen to shoot the 600yd if you decide to run it.
Cheers,
Shaun
