FLY SHOOT goes to TEXAS ,USA
HI All , a Mike Cockcroft from Huntsville in TEXAS USA has contacted me wanting to shoot our Australian 500 Meter FLY event over there. After checking with Jim McKinley targets have left to the US ..Good luck to those that give it a whirl as i believe it to be the hardest Long Range Benchrest Match in the World, great to hopefully see some results in the future..JR..Jeff Rogers

That is great news! Will be interesting to see what they can do! I'd imagine high mirage in Texas!
I agree with you too, shooting for group and score on the one target, plus the target isnt the biggest makes it difficult!
When are they planning on running it?
Cheers

Re - the adoption of the 500m Fly Shoot by the Americans. (or anyone else for that matter)
Ditto to the above!!!!
This is great news and can only be a positive initiative.
Who knows where this may lead?
Providing, that, they follow our rules and procedures for this event, then I believe it would be fitting and appropriate to acknowledge without hesitation, their results and any records that they establish.
BUT, conversely, given the existing bastardised and sullied state of 1000yd BR rules in this country, surely the Americans, would have more than ample justification to make changes to “our fly rules”, if they so desired. Eh!!!

Refreshing news, that the Texans are prepared to implement our rules for the 500m Flyshoot.
It will be interesting to check their results and see what their thoughts and feelings are, afterwards.
In relation to the general structure and organisation of sport, many would be well aware that most sporting bodies usually categorise or administer their respective events using grades and classes, or a combination of both.
I would assume that the reason for this, is to try and group or match competitors, using as a basis, their age, ability, degree of involvement or interest and to also allow for differing levels of equipment specification and use.
I think it would be fair to state, that same logic is employed by the major shooting organisations, both here and overseas.
As an example, the NRAA, in its wisdom rightfully acknowledges, that whilst there are many similarities between F class Std and F class Open, there are sufficient differences in the respective degrees of difficulties of both events to justify the establishment of two independent disciplines.
On a similar note, the SSAA, for reasons based on varying equipment capabilities and differing theoretical accuracy levels, offers numerous SRBR disciplines for the centrefire and rimfire devotee’s.
Once again, also correct me I have made the wrong interpretation, but I believe the primary reason or motivation for all the above, is to ensure that competitors are treated equally in their respective events and the rule structure that is applied does not provide any competitor or group of competitors with any advantage over their peers.
It follows on, in my opinion, from the same reasoning, that it is imperative that the rules employed are equitable and non discriminatory, ensuring no competitor or group of competitors are disadvantaged in any way.
In fact, I would argue that the only factors that should determine the results on the day, apart from weather factors etc. are or should be directly/indirectly under the control of the individual competitor.
Unfair rules or flawed interpretations should not influence event outcomes.
Many may remember, and others may find it interesting to know, that not that long ago, in Australia, we have had a legal precedent where the results of a National Championship were overturned by the courts, because a competitor felt and was subsequently proven correct, that the rules interpretation and appeals process that was applied at the time, was unjust.
Today, there are numerous regulatory bodies who are prepared to investigate and act if necessary, to ensure that equitable and non discriminatory practises are applied and implemented across all facets of society, business, education and sport, just to name a few!
Surely, the adherence to correct and appropriate procedures and guidelines during rule formulation, circulation, consultation, final presentation and the subsequent implementation processes, should ensure that the above situation is never repeated
All competitors should be able to attend any event, confident in the knowledge that they will receive a fair go!
Nothing more!
Nothing less!

So the Fly has gone abroad, that's great news, perhaps in time it will become an international event.
I would like to see the introduction of an extra class being for tactical rifles of standard factory specs.

JR will they shoot it at 500m or 500yds?
We don't wont them to have a 42.8m advantage.
