Hi adonn223,
There are a couple of good caravan parks in Narrandera and Leeton to stay at. I know the Narrandera ones are about $70 to $80 a night. If you are planning to stay somewhere Narrandera would be best as on the Saturday night we all meet up at a local pub in Narrandera for a feed and a few drinks. The range is only about 26km from Narrandera.

If you do come down for the shoot I will PM you my mobile and you can follow me out to the range.

At Leeton.. maybe around 25 shooters....

At Canberra, around 50... I think!

Rounds, pack 50. 40 for the actual comp, 10 to get you on paper and warmer target etc!

I would say 50 is the minimum unless you absolutly certain of your zero.
If you have any doubt at all pack a few extra and we can get you on target, if you dont need them you can always take them home.

Minimum 40 per match. Take 50 for centrefire... and a full packet of rimfire... rimfire can be a whole lot of fun to get on the target!

If you are not confident to get on target with centrefire, take a few more!

I usually take 52 rounds... 40 for match. 2 or 3 for sight in period, either 7 or 8 for wamer target.. and two extra rounds just incase something silly happens.. like a round doesnt go off etc...

Guys can anyone give a quick rundown on the rules for this?

It doesnt sound like a bad way to spend a weekend but given the 5 hour drive thing any info would be nice before commiting.

Rinso has posted the rules before. A full on fly match is shot at 500 so this at 300 is a great way to try. Its a private, small range and the blokes are there to have fun.

The last rule of the officail comp rules for fly goes something like' any competitor not found to be enjoying themselves will be disqualified" and its hard not to enjoy yourself at Leeton even when you shoot like me.

I wrote a story on the main site after my first match, might be worth reading Grimo before you make your mind up attending.

Seriously considering bringing a 6/250 and 243 varmint rifle with 2 juniors to sit behind them this time! now how embarassing will that be if they beat me...........

1. Any Cal less than .50Cal.

2. Any stock configuration.

3. Any scope power including spotting scopes. Competitors may spot for each other.

4. No weight restrictions for Heavy Gun class. Light Gun class weight is 17lbs including bipods.

5. No rails ie: Guns shot from separate sand bag rest systems where the rear sand bag shall contact both the bench and the rifle. The front sandbag rest can be attached to a pedestal which can have adjustments for windage and elevation.

The rear sandbag may have a stabiliser plate surrounding it if desired. Light gun class are allowed bipods.

6. 7 minute details. 1 target per shooter per detail.

7. Only 5 shots on the target. 3 sighters at other medium (paper or steel) for each relay. Payment of nominations shall be deemed total acceptance of these rules.

8. No ‘muzzle brakes’.

9. Compliance with range safety rules at all times.

10. Any competitor found not enjoying themselves will be disqualified.


Seems to make sense. and sounds not bad at all. Now to find a scope with the magnification i want/will need. I have a feeling 12X just wont just it at 300. Just to clarify rule 5 though, Front rests are fine, but cant use bags at the rear or?

Leanne and went out last year and I used my .223 Ruger in the factory class with a 12 X scope, there just wasn't enough optics or windage in the turrets to compensate.

It was a good day, just take some 'warm' clothes.

rear bags are fine. I did it with a 16 power scope, just made out 6mm bullet holes, just!

Mate you can use any rest system basically providing that it is not all one piece ie front and rear systems must be seperate. A pedestal rest and rear bag are fine, you can also sue ie front and rear bags, bipod and rear bag etc just not a 1 piece rest or mechanical or fixed rear rest.

The 12x isnt ideal but remember you only need to have a regular aim point at 300m spotting fall of shot can be done for you by a spotter.

The whole trip is worthwhile and I was speaking to Antony at Vortex tha other day he may attend with a display of Vortex gear including new release items from the shot show if they turn up in time.

Alright, seems I have been convinced.

Now to find out what hoops work want me to jump through to get time off. Assuming i can get the time off is it worthwhile going the ubeer RWS eley etc ammo, or at 200M is it going to make stuff all difference out of a CZ452 varmint

Only worthwhile if you are going to test its grouping at 200m mate. If not go with what you know shoots best!
