a.JR wrote:Hi All , Buy up quick because by April my guess is that an action will cost you an Extra $500 if you can find anyone to actually send it here.. Hang on to you Remingtons as they just jumped in value.. Spoke to a well known dealer recently and the price was Aus$3600 for a BAT to suit a light gun and then you get to buy a trigger.. Very shortly any custom action will be $3500 to $4000 ..JR.Jeff Rogers

why will it be a change in govt policy or fees in bringing in custom action-- that sort of price jump cannot be just becasue of our exchange rate taking such a dive

a Predator V with ejector and magazine feeding would be a good one to build a shoot from the cab rifle with

it would eject the brass into the cab instead of out the window when shooting from the drivers seat

yes you would have to chase the brass round the cab to find it all- but thats a game for the kids to play in the morning after you have been spotlighting all night

I had a little go of TrevorT's Predator- seriously nice piece of gear
I'f I didn't have such limited $$ I would seriously consider building everything on a Predator action
Yes
Sell off all my Tikkas ( maybe not my 6.5x55 range rifle) and build all of them again in Predators and McM or Manners stocks with HS precision detachable mags, Jewels HBR triggers with safeties, Kreigers or Liljas and Euro glass

Oh to win tattslotto -- SC would have a shit load more work to do.....

17HMR on the rimfire action- feeding from a ruger rotary magazine
204R
20PPC fast twister
223
6BR
6.5 Grendel
6.5x55- F-class
30BR
338 Federal

a BR gun built to do all comps- 100,200,300, 500 fly 600 and 1k stuff- dont know which caliber- once I have one tatt's I'll open the discussion and let you guys decide what caliber

and a computer controlled manuhrin autoloader to load em all on

It doesn't matter if a big Export Company does the work, the MANUFACTURER
still needs to have paid for the Licence, that's where the killer is.

And it's not worth it for alot of them.

Anyway, by then we'll have our own actions built.

$4000 for an action without trigger, only if I win that $20 million.
I say we support the Kiwis and go for the Barnard, $1800 with trigger. The new Oz made Inch action might be something to look at as well, it certainly looks a bit different, though heavier than most actions. Does anyone know much about these inch actions?
As for the shot show, jeeze, you would have to leave you credit card behind or you would go over board wouldnt you.

a.JR, I understand where you are coming from with competitive 1000yd benchrest rigs and such, and if I had the spare cash, I would love a big Stiller Python action to make a 1000yd BR gun from. It is what I originaly wanted for my gun which Tony isbuilding up until I got the quote. If they had 1000yd matchs localy I would certainly think of one of those actions, but I wont actualy get to shoot much 1000yd BR. For the Joe average in Australia at the moment I cant see too many of us being able to afford the $4000 actions (minus trigger)we would need for top level 1000yd BR gun, with the economy how it is at the moment anyway. I would love one of the new Stiller 22RF actions while I,m at it.
For us average F class shooters with a mortgage and 2.4 kids who only need to let a shot off every 20 seconds at a .6- 1 moa center, a cheaper Barnard action will probably shoot better than we can. Will a dual port barnard be much slower than a Stiller with normal cartridges and loads? In the meantime, I enjoy the silky smooth feeling my Kelbly action has compared to my Remington.

As for the Shotshow, a gunshop owner I know well offered to get me paperwork to go to one of the big shows over there. It would be great to go to, but I would have to sell another of the kids kidneys to fund the buying spree I would go on.
