Guys just wandering what the consensus is when storing ammo in cases. I usually keep mine all pointing up, looks after the tips etc
However I have a box for my 222 rimmed martini that is only designed for a rimless 222 and thus they will only fit face down. These are usually only loaded with HP's maybe the odd plastic tip or Soft point like shots. Is the only problem that the tips on the SP's might get roughed up?
They do fit in my Large case that I used for 6.5 swede and 308 etc but they can be a little hard to get out at times specialy with the 40grainers.
Might just have to find a box that suits ppc or something.
Cheers
Ryan

depends on how they fit in the box and if the tips are protected.

Mate,
Just spend 20 minutes with a pencil and some sponge rubber. Poke a piece down each slot and the bullet will sit on that rather than the plastic base. Also you can use a section of sponge rubber to line the inside of the lid of ammo boxes this when closed puts light pressure on the ammo and stops it rattling around.
cheers

Thanks for the tips, I take it, it shouldn't affect how the ammo performs right?.

if the load density is good, so that the case is nearly filled, wont matter. If the charges leave lots of airspace in the case it theoretically can effect ignition variability depending on where the powder lies in the case. Should be good if they are all strored the same way tho.

No change in performance at all.stinkitup wrote:Thanks for the tips, I take it, it shouldn't affect how the ammo performs right?.
I suppose that if you packed everything tight enough you could change the seating depth when you close the lid but that would be pretty obvious when you went to close the lid as well.
The sponge will just protect the tips mate.
cheers

I have an RCBS ammo case that has a molded shape in the bottom to protect the points. Kind of cradles them so you can store them points down.
Will try to get a photo.
