100 meter bunny gun

Post by fritz »

So what would make a good rabbit killer at distances over 100 yards/meters? I was thinking AF condor. I also don't want to spend much more than $600USD on the gun alone.

Will I have to spend more to get the power I'm looking for? I know Theoben rifles can do 25-30fpe with a spring, but I am concerned a powerful springer will have too much movement from the spring to shoot that far accurately. Anything that will shoot about 12+ fpe at 100 meters is powerful enough for me.

100m bunny gun.. Mate that is a big ask. I'd be going a 17hmr. Check out Quackenbush airguns they might be the go. 100m for an airgun is like 500m for a centrefire!

Considering the cost of operating (feeding) rimfires I would go for the .22WMR rather than the .17HMR. On our shelves at the shop we have some .17HMR's and they run out at just under $30.00 per box of 50. In .22WMR a similar breed of ammo works out at about $18.00 per box. The .17HMR rifle is listed at the same wholesale price as the .22 WMR by most importers but the .22 is the more common when it comes to finding one second hand. The .22WMR fires a 40grain projectile and the .17HMR is about half that weight. The retained energy of the .22 is much greater when you get out to, and beyond, that magic 100M mark.
For my money, the good old .22WMR (Winchester Magnum Rimfire) is still the better bet. Roumour has it that Hornady is bringing out some new projectiles for the .22WMR and these could make the old .22"Magnum" really perform! :)
If you can, try before you buy. Some of our customers tell us that the .17's are very fussy about ammo, hence we have about 6 varieties that move quite slowly and 2 that sell a lot faster. :(
