WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE THE .222 REM?????
WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE THE .222 REM?????
I have just bought a anschutz .222 rem in imaculate condition only fired about 200 rounds with a tip top scope for a bargin price, the problem is i have now started doing a bit of research on .222 rem and all i can find is people complaining about it and saying how obslete it is. The guy also chucked in a reloading press with dies, primers, cases for fifty bucks that had been used only a few times.
Can some one please tell me the pros and cons on this calibre, i will only be using it on foxes, cats and rabbits, and can you also tell me why everyone hates this round so much! i have never reloaded before so i will start getting into that. the only info i can find is people gloating about how good the 223 is incomparision to the 222, i have read that the 223 doesnt even get that much better velocity.
thanks,

Nothing wrong with a 222 mate, not as harsh as a high power calibre on your ears, easy on barrels and very accurate. Looking at ballistics for the 222, I would be loading up some 40gr vmax and AR 2207- its THE powder for the 222. Be a great rifle for what you want it, and pretty flat to 200m or so too.

Mate absolutely nothing wrongbwoth the 222 it is my go to rifle and I love it so much!! Don't worry about what people say just enjoy it!! It will do everything a 223 does as it's only 1-200fps slower my avatar features my 222.
Seriously mate don't listen to the knockers they've never had a 222 to be qualified to talk about em! I'd shoot just as well if not better with my 222 then any factory 223 on this forum!!

Ain't nothing wrong with the triple 2. New Zealand government cullers used 222's on everything from rabbits to reds, including thar and chamois.
Sierra uses a 222 to test all their 22 caliber bullets and the 222 had many a benchrest title to it's name
These guys knocking the 222, obviously have not done their homework.
Cheers Malcolm

Re: WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE THE .222 REM?????
johny,
Don't listen to the wankers!!!
My first rifle was a Remington 222, that was 18 years ago and
I still have it and use it all the time.
It is all about advertisement, the 223 is a military round so it gets
alot of exposure and the 222 got pushed to the side.
There are only a few factory rifles still chambered in 222, that is sad
cause it is a great calibre.
Lapua stopped making 222 brass but because of demand in
the US they have started making it again so there is hope
for the 222 after all.
Mate use Anschutz 222 and enjoy it the ferals will not know the difference.
If one of those 223 loven 222 bashen pricks start on you tell them
the 222 still holds a short range bench record!
I have 2 full custom varmint guns coming, a 6x47L and a 20PPC
but I am going to keep my 222 no matter what I get.
I like using it and I think I will get it rebarreled with a match
grade barrel down the track in 222.

Re: WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE THE .222 REM?????
I know people that use 222's for pigs, goat and deer, they have shot plenty without any probs.
Re: WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE THE .222 REM?????
No probs with the .222 in fact the more people that hate it the happier we should be as there is some great 222 bargins to be had, In saying that though the price of 222 ammo compared to 223 is a joke i havnt looked but some one told me 222 stuff is up near $40 a box now compared to $15 for the 223.
Enjoy your rifle.
Enjoy your rifle.

Re: WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE THE .222 REM?????
You must have searched everywhere but here, as you can see there is a bunch of 222 lovers at AV. Nothing wrong with a 223 either but the 222 is a sweet round. I have a rimmed version in a Martini and its a great little cartridge. As said before get some 2207 and some 40 grainers, Nosler BT's just have the higher BC over Hornady's Vmax but get a box of both and see how it goes. It has to be one of the easiest cartridges to reload for.
Enjoy! sounds like you got a bargain.

Love the .222. My little Sako L46, around 60 years old, it still gets attention whenever I take it out to play.

I think Hiwall just waits for any excuse to drag a picture of that puppy out and make us all jealous.

Re: WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE THE .222 REM?????
Nowt wrong with the .222 for it's intended purpose. It was a top benchrest cartridge for years and years. Foxes and rabbits have gotten no harder to kill since 1950, so it still makes a good mid range round for the likes of them.
