Depends - some will shoot OK out of the box, but yeah, the triggers are ordinary.
The method of fitting the barrel is partly to blame.
I have a 77/22 and with a little bit of mucking around and a wide trigger shoe it shoots pretty good now.
To be honest it seems many rimfires have crap triggers - the Marlins are bad out of the box but not hard to fix. CZ's can be ordinary as well but once again there are fixes.
IMO if you are paying a grand for a rifle you shouldn't have to go to the trouble though.
Fenring I agree for a grand I think you should be able to expect to get a reasonable shooter without the need for trigger kits and a recrown. As far as triggers go on the rifles I have held the Remington was by far and away the worst followed by the cz,marlin and Ruger the annie has been the best but have not tried the savage or sako yet
Thanks for your input fella`s.The decision has been made an Annie DHB ,a hakko 6x50 held together with warn mounts. The decision came down after annoying Shane with 3 phone calls which I thank him .Can`t wait now put a pta in the post this arvo hopefully all good
Fenring and others, thanks for such a quick and straightforward round up, makes it dead easy to check out. My wife will probably hate you now though, just ordered a .22lr and now start reading this!
I ordered more than I needed when I was seperated and my gun addiction filled a hole. Now I have a beautiful wife who I actually enjoy being with and a combined kid tally of 8 I find less time. Is 10 excessive?
Knackers rifle is in the LGS at the old price now.Scope and mounts are coming up from Shanes.PTA was approved last friday so here`s hopeing for monday.
Guys I have never shot a .17HMR and have done a bit of searching, how are they on barrels, etc? Are they a buy and forget thing like many .22? I read they need a fair bit of cleaning?

They get a bit of powder fouling but a barrel will last a long, long time.
Rifles and opinions seem to vary as to how much cleaning is needed before accuracy goes off.
Thanks Als and Fenring, will have a look at the other site. Seems like a very cheap intro into a varmint style rifle and a lot of fun out to a 100 metres.
Had some fun with my marlin yesterday arvo, head shooting rabbits to 100m and even chest shot one at 200. They will powder foul up a bit, but ive never pulled any copper fouling out of mine. Im at the stage where I will not clean it until ive been for a few trips. Being stainless barrel its not as hard to clean after a few trips and it always shoots better after 4 or 5 shots have been put through it since cleaning. Put it this way. You will never wear out a HMR barrel in a hurry. Light pills, light powder charges and slow velocties compared to high power varmint rigs. Never had as much fun with a rimfire as I have with my hummer.
I've got a CZ Classic. The barrel was clear of the stock (floated) straight out of the box. The trigger was fine but a bit heavier than my Tikka so I followed one of DrGs suggestions in another tread and bought a Brookes trigger kit about US$15 and fitted it myself, cheap and easy sub 1lb trigger.
I prefer to keep the scope below 44mm objective lense size or it gets a bit unbalanced and clumsy in the ute cab.
I'm glad I spent the extra on a CZ, the quality fit and appearance was worth it.
