Hi sometimes shooter, you can shoot F standard and if you like F open with it.Ranges from 300 yards to 1000+ yards if your projectile and twist rate are up to it.
You can also go to your local SSAA and shoot several classes(I can't remember the names they use, someone help out here please) or just shoot on their practice days for fun at BR targets etc.
Have a good one,
Macca

If you dont mind positional type shooting you can try feild rifle which uses common hunting positions or try 3p which is prone, kneeling/sitting and offhand. only catch is rifle must way under 5kg slings may be used but may be taken off for weighing

If it is an 8 or 9" twist barrel , then go for F class standard at the Belmont full bore range. Guaranteed lots of fun.

So what does F class standard entail, it is only a REM 700 ADL with 1-12" twist but it loves 60grn VMAX so go figure. I'm not sure what the weight is probably over 5kg's

G'Day Sometime,
f class std is usually a 308 shooting 155gn bullets or a 223 shooting 69 or 80gn bullets.

Now I'm sure you will be welcome shooting your 60gn'rs, you can use a bipod, or sand bag at the front and back to shoot off, and even though you probably wont be 100% competive against ridgey didge f std rifles there is absolutely no reason not to have a go at 3-500yds.

Remember that really you will only be competing against yourself, so trying to better your best score is what you need to be concentrating on. As you go on you will get an idea that your rifle (& you) might be capable of as 70-80% of the scores shot but the "big boys" but who cares!

More importantly you will learn that the wind is the biggest factor against your scores and and as you learn to conpensate for it, you will become more successful at hunting when making those long shots when needed.

Also if you want to get into it a bit more seriously, a basic true up of the action and new barrel will get you a proper f std rifle and the 80gn amax's would be a great varminting round too (I've successfully used the 75 amax's out of my 223 F class rifle on ferals)

So go for it! and ask as many questions as you can and you will learn heaps while having fun!

Cheerio Ned

The max weight for F class standard is 8kg, so yours is OK.
Basicly, how F class works is you lie down and shoot prone, using either a bipod or front benchrest (or sand bag) up front and a rear bag. ( Think of it as belly benchrest).
Most matches are 2 sighter shots and 10 shots for score, with the target pulled down between each shot and a spotting disc put in the bullet hole, and target raised again so you know where you hit. This means you dont need a super powerfull scope to see you bullet holes.
Take a wonder down to the Full Bore range at Belmont on a weekend and have a look and ask questions. I would be suprised if someone doesnt offer you a shot with there rifle, I know I usualy do at club shoots. For F class standard I use my Remington 308 hunting rifle, with standard stock etc as well, though I am looking at building up a budget target rifle soon.

Thanks guys I may just have to go for a drive tomorrow to Belmont if the rain holds off that is, have to resight my 6.5x55 anyway. Does anyone who shoots at Belmont on a regular basis know when they shoot f-class or do they tend to shoot pretty much every weekend????
