Which Calibre

I hate GAMOs becuse they are overadvertised POS. The velocity of them is about 300fps lower than advertised, they use synthetic stocks, and I have a feeling aren't made in the US or Germany. GAMO rifles also like to come with fiber optic open sights, these are not needed, regular iron is perfectly fine. With the exception of the Hunter series they all come with the same powerplant, the only difference is barrel length and stock type.

The good side of GAMO rifles is that they are extremely light. For those of us who go out in the rain and such the synthetic stock is a good side, but people with a calling for quality use wood. GAMO rifles can also accept a wider range of custom triggers than RWS or some pcp/msp guns.

I must say after reading your post I felt I needed to reply.
I tend to be one of those people who call for quality and wood is not one of my needs,I have a nice steyr(synthetic stock) that I would say was quality.
Just because it has wood does not mean its quality and vice versa, I dont like GAMO either and had a 440 hunter and sold it, shitty trigger,let me re-phrase that, worst trigger ever,spring noise that sounds like a freight train and would not group like a quality AR.
Anyway I still like .20cal but thats only my opinion,for what it's worth.!!!

I don't think I'd like .20 cal because I'd have to order over the internet. Most shops in my area only stock .177 and .22.

You are right, some synthetic stocks are good, but GAMO stocks are poorly made, I had a GAMO, shot it for a day, and took it back. Got a Diana 34.

Hi Scott,

Having used a CFX, I thought I'd chuck in my 2c worth.

The CFX (.177) I shot, I was hitting a swinger the size of a twenty cent piece regularly and easily. Yes it felt light. Yes it sounded tinny. But it was accurate for the price.

Would I but one?

No, not when I see Lewis is offering;
"Weihrauch HW80 .177 Ugly metal,wood OK 980FPS Silver Bears."

If you want a rifle for knocking down starlings, the "ugly metal" means nothing. Lewis would not sell you a rifle that was mechanically bad. He guarantees his product. And has the track record to back that reputation. I reckon for a rifle to do the job, this is probably the "bargain of the century" for a good intro air rifle for bird control. (Mind you, the other options Lewis is offering aren't that bad, just not as good as the HW80 - IMHO).

If you are convinced you will want to hunt bigger vermin, then the larger calibres come into play, but for starlings, .177 will do it, and that rifle from Lewis sounds like a bit of nice piece of quality mechanical kit at a good value price.

Thanks for all the feedback. I bought a Webley .22 from Lewis and its punching Silver Bears out at about 690fps (chrony). Very happy with the accuracy and it sudden death on sparrows. Havent had a chance to try it on other game yet.

good choice mate my brother has a webley and I can honestly say that they are a very fine rifle.

The Omega was a fine airgun.It was brought out to compete with the FWB Sport,HW35 etc.You don't see them very often and I always grab nice ones.The trigger is the same excellent one as found on the Kodiak/Patriot,Eclipse,Crow Magnum II.
