Results from Townsville

Post by albow »

Hi All

The results from the past couple of matches in Townsville are now posted.

Yesterday saw the second last 600yd match shot in Townsville for the year with the conditions again proving hard to get a handle on. The theme for the day seemed to be four in and one out for the groups which was represented in the overall group aggs.

An excellent result from Jeff Harrison with a win in HG for both score and group along with small group of the day at 2.50" which was a real credit in the conditions that were there.

Similarly Bob Luther won LG for both score and group and also got single high score with a 50.

The last match for the year will be 9th November.

Well done Jeff H and Bobby L. Tough day so Jeffs' 2.5 incher was a really great result. I hate to point it out, but Jeff used a stock 270 configuration with just a tight neck. 135 SMKs and some Berger 140s. I really do hate 270s and have long thought of them as a match chamber for a 280, but to do so well two shoots in a row against arguably the best HG in the country says a lot about both the gun and the shooter. I still cringe when i think of the fact i screwed a 270 barrel into a perfectly good 700 action. Next it will be some stinking 6.5.
Thanks again to John Mc who came up from Mackay and severely kicked my butt with that 6.5 of his. The 123 Scenars performed very well in strong gusty winds and the new Lawton action certainly looks the part and works well.

See you all in two weeks. Jethro Bodine

Tony,

If it's any consolation, I won't be asking for a change from 270 to 6.5. Jeff, as we told you on the range, you just need a bipod, like that tacticoooool had. As pointed out, conditions weren't great, and for once I managed to pick it a little, 2 weeks time I should return to my more usual mediocre form. If of course I can get some more bullets in time.

hi Tony if you realy want to change to 6.5 i have a nice tight necked 6.5x47 reamer with the shoulder moved forward 1mm to get more powder into the popgun case you can have a lend of reamer if needed i will be back in townsville for the last 600yd match of the year to see if the lawton will do its job again i will tweak the load a bit to see if it will shoot a bit better if the weather will be kind enough to behave itself    see you then

I had already planned that if the tacticool shot a 2 incher i was in the car and out the gate home to sell off all guns i own. That would have made my day just peachy. From now on i'm just gunna keep to reading newspapers cause i cetainly can't read a fucking wind flag.
John, bring ya mate Bob so there are more people i can finish behind. Tell Bob i want to run a Outlaw Hunter Class match next year. Any gun, any caliber any weight, if you can carry it to the line and it sits on two bags, it's legal. With a bit of luck we should be able to get it into the rules in a year or two  Proving to be very popular in the US.

Sounds good to me Tony what distance 200 and 300 or just standard Why not start an experimental class for Hunter/Class Factory Class could be renamed Sporter. Dont know if John told you i have reamers for a 30X47L with .333 neck do you have a 30cal 17twist barrel at a reasonable price otherwise i will just have to wait till the aussie Dollar get back up some.
Also have bought Mr Keppie from WA`s LV with 3 barrels hope to shoot it in LV & HV

Bob,with the Outlaw, not sure of when or where or how far at this point. But 300 yards is a certainty. Actually, Mackay would be just about perfect as the other range suitable is screwing around with some phuuut gun clone no-one competes in.
Is that the Viper/Scoville you got off the chain smoker  Anyway, i thought you weren't ever going to be a group shooter?
Talk to you next weekend when you come up to join the others that give me a hiding at OZ 600.
