WhiteMeat,

I agree with bowhunter .. but if you can only come on Sunday then the we normally start between 830 - 9am and finished by 2.30 - 3pm latest at the 1000yd match. Yes you are more than welcome to come along and have a look meet a few of the blokes and envariably end up building a rifle and joining in.
If you can make the Staurday Fly shoot it again kicks off about 8.30 am and finishes about 1 - 2 pm.
If you get there dont be a stranger come and say g'day
cheers

Thanks for the info bowhunter & Rinso

I'm currently without a centerfire and I'm stuck around Sydney until I drop my parents off at the airport on the Sat'day arvo, I figured a good sunday road trip is in order to relax a bit and not think about the goings on in life for a few hours :D

cheers again, if all goes according to plan, i'll see you all there on the sunday morning :)

It was great to meet those of you that I did meet today, good to put faces to the names and have a chat at the same time (wish I'd thought ahead to bring a hat... now i really am a redneck and have a nice tshirt tan / burn to go with it :P )

Congrats to the winners of this, and you'll most likely see me at the next one spectating (if the girl / life allows  )

 We are working on our excuses for the groups we shot.
Some blokes turned in some respectable scores and groups in trying conditions.
Hopefully Mick or someone will have the full results to put up later.
Was a good day despite the fun the wind provided.

Results in 'results forum' please correct any errors and I dont recall the HG score agg winner for the 1k PVM maybe ?

Saturday was trying to say the least with the general run of scores being well down on normal results in the Fly. Wind switched and gusted constantly with most shooters unable to find anything like a consistant condition to shoot on, this resulted in a lot of suck it and see shooting as the sighters ran out, groups generally reflected this as well. Ross Hicks score of 235 was stunning for the conditions as was any score over 200 so well done to the 4 who managed it. As for the rest of us it was a long day at the office, maybe next time.

The 1k on Sunday proved just as difficult with strong gusting winds again swiching up to 180 degrees and just not settling in any pattern. The wind was up and strong from 6am so nobody got off easy with the morning groups just as hard pressed as the afternoon shooters. Some sterling efforts were turned in particular mention must go to Murray Hicks who really put it together for a good win in HG, 10 shots was a big ask in the conditions doing it twice was outstanding, so back to back wins for Murray at 1k after his success in Brisbane earlier this year, well done mate. Special mention to Shane Clancy who held it together in great style 'picking' through some shocking conditions for 9 shots on his first stage only to run out of time and push the last shot out of an otherwise excellent group trying to beat the 'cease fire' call.

Despite the trying conditions at both events everyone enjoyed the matches and a few new shooters look to be getting the bug at both 500 & 1000. Excellent results for Murray Hicks and Peter Van Muers over the two days as well.

It was good to meet 'Missed' at the Fly shoot and 'Whitemeat' at the 1k hope you liked what you saw.

cheers

well I learned something. I dont practice enough and dont really have the time to do more so somethings gotta give. I might forget about trying Short Range Benchrest to concentrate on this stuff. I've told Shane to give me a week to make my mind up before he on sells all the bits I've paid for for a 6ppc.

Nailing three long distant foxes in the spotlight in Holbrook on Sunday night was my weekend highlight. Though to be fair I got more satisfaction out of the 1000yd than my dismal score would suggest. On my third attempt at 1000yd I shot blind for the first time to try to force myself to learn to read wind. Because I couldnt see any consistent condition during the fly I was chasing my shots not picking a consistent aim point and watching the flags, a big no no. In the 100o yd blind forces you to watch flags. The first target had three none scorers with two on the 5 an 6 ring. At least they were all in the same general area of the target which told me I misjudged the wind speed but at least was firing into the same condition.

Second target was a 37 with a 20.6 inch group. Nothing to get excited about but again it told me that I could (if I concentrate and practice) pick my shots in the gusty wind conditions a little.

Was ready to give it away after the fly but the 1000yd encouraged me to try again.

See you next year.

Nice to meet Missed, Oscar 270, Whitemeat, Macca. Missed I'll make more time for my next trip so you can show me some of the sights of Yass :hunting:

Jeff, I know it can be done, I saw experienced shooters doing it. I just need to practice more AND to think before I pull the trigger!

Wouldn't be too worried about it Trevor. The conditions were utterly shite. From what I saw on the BOM website, most of the day consisted of 50+kmh gusts. The wind was at a constant 15-20kmh at 6am.

If you could find a condition that settled for more than 15 seconds, it would have been ok, but with the wind direction swinging 120 degrees every 20 seconds or so, with little to no warning, it wasn't a bad effort just staying on paper. People who have been shooting 1K BR for far longer than you recorded NG targets as well.

Wasn't much different for the fly. Some very experienced shooters found the conditions very trying.
