What is the regulated pressure for a standard BSA Hornet?

Hi Harry or Lewis,

I was down at the range yesterday putting some JSB exacts (heavy, .177) into paper at 50m, when the groups started to drift out. I then realised that my dive bottle is starting to get down, and perhaps I was shooting below the regulated pressure of the hornet. Sure enough, I kept going, then the rifle released the remaining pressure in the cylinder.
This was expected, and fine, but I'm wondering just what the figure is that the hornet is regulated at when fully charged?

And I also realised that if anyone knew, it would be Harry or Lewis

I'm not quite sure what you're asking Curan.Fill it to 200BARS.
A Hornet generally shoots about 30 shots tops then it falls away.
Once you hit 25/30 shots,POI will drop.There shouldn't be any other movement other than down.

The hornet gets out about 25 shots currently, but I'm only filling to around 150 bar, as that's all that is left in my dive bottle. Better get it filled again I s'pose

Sorry Curran it is a long time since I visited this site......

The regulator of the .177 is set at something around 2000psi which would be say 140 bar
. ( The .22s are normally set a little lower I believe )... The recommended maximum pressure for standard Hornets is 232 bar / 3364 psi. ... You need to re-fill that SCUBA tank. If you have a pump, you can top up after you get whatever you can from your tank. For example, if your tank is full at 200 bar, you can then top up with the pump to 232 bar ( do not exceed 232 bar ). As your tank drains down you do a little more pumping each fill Very good exercise, I pump 90% of the time and I have two tanks, an old 200 bar and a newer 300 bar.
Old blokes should get whatever exercise they can without paying to go to a gym!
... Apologies for the late response. We were on our Corner Country trip half Sept and most of October.

Let us know how many shots you get when you fill to 232 bar and drop it to say 120 bar ( you still get some good shots after it drops off the regulator as it then works as a self regulated rifle for a few shots before it dumps the rest. Usually when it comes off the regulator the velocity goes up for a few shots and then heads down ) ..... Kind regards, Harry.

I'm not in a position to try your advice just at this time (bloody work), but I'll give it a go when I get home. I have a pump, so I can boost what i put in from the bottle. I'll see how it goes.

I'll try it out when I get the chance. I'm still rapt with the hornet. It's an incredible amount of gun for the money.
