Thought I would show you guys the progress that I have made on the old fibreglass BR stock I bought off JR earlier this year.
It has been repaired, patched and coated with gelcoat then blocked down with wet and dry. It is now to be polished and will be used as a plug so I can make a fibreglass / carbon fibre copy.
If all goes well, this will be used as the learning to enable me to try making my own LR benchrest stock out of carbon fibre.
clever bloke, this Albow fella; with him, Tony Z aJR and the other blokes up here we're pretty lucky to live in and around Townsville.

Mate I reckon your right...seems the high humidity doesn't harm the brain cells at all We are all lucky to have them about...but I found distance is not really a problem with their advise...you just need to know how to ask
Good stuff mate, have thought if I make my own stock that fiberglass might be a nice try, have abit of experience with it etc, I take it you fill it with some weight in certain areas too afterwoods?
Well after quite a few interuptions over the past few months with work and holidays, I finally got one of my fibreglass stocks finished so I thought I would let you all see how it came out.
The one pictured below has been my test / learning case for the whole process and I am quite happy with the way it has come out as is my mate who is now the owner of it

are you intending to make any thumbhole stocks?
I'd really be interested in a lefthanded thumbhole stock.

I can provide the stocks at two different levels of finish.
The price for one of the stocks that has been undercoated with an epoxy primer would be $340 plus postage. The stock finished to this level will only need to be inletted and bedded for your action, given a very light sand with a 420 grit sandpaper then painted by yourself.
If you want one finished the same as the one pictured you would be looking at $490 plus postage which would have the stock fully painted including metal flake, two pack clear coated then wet rubbed, buffed and polished. All you would need to do is inlet and bed for your action.
As far as a thumbhole stock, I am looking to make a LR composite stock which may be a thumbhole however I am just finalising the design at the moment.

I am considering one of your stocks for a 260 AI light gun project but am really leaning towards a left handed thumbhole stock. Only because junior(r/h) thinks that every rifle I own will ultimately be his, I want a left hand gun that is only MINE.
After speaking to Shane C, Jugs, aJR and Tony Z at the Townsville iron man, I am seriously looking at the 260 AI as an all round cartridge for fly, 600yd (if it takes off in NSW) and 1000 yards. Having said this, I shot my first 600 yd match at Townsville this year and shoot 1000 yd maybe twice a year after the fly shoots in canberra. Am really hoping to get back to Townsville again next year. Many thanks to Jeff and June for their hospitality, and to all the FNQ guys for for a great shoot. Have been there 3 times over the last five years and consider it one of the best LR shoots on the calendar.
