so i've busted my scope
after a nasty little drop it seems my tasco 6-24x44 scope is busted. it was a $200 scope, 3-4 years old, worked well until dropped, so i'm not going to even bother with warranty.
anyway can anyone recommend a decent scope. the budget is $300 tops, general use, bunny busting and a little target work.
i have seen BSA platinums (8-32x44) and bushnell banner (6-18x50) scopes advertised at VERY good prices can anyone give feedback on them?
NB im not looking for a scope that'll "last a lifetime" or do anything fancy, all going well it'll be on the upgrade agenda in about two years (three tops) anyway. i'd rather save a little now and put it towards the new stock, bedding, trigger job/replacement and maybe a barrel shortening and action trueing that i was already saving for

I've got a 4-12 x 40 Banner, and to be honest i'm not that impressed with it. Works ok, but optics are not the best. My 7-21 x 40 Bushnell 3200 is much better. You get what you pay for i guess.

Just so you know, I have had some warranty dealings with Tasco and they couldn't have been more helpful.
I was lucky enough to live quite near the warehouse at Brookvale and was able to drop it off and pick it up. None the less it was quite easy.

DIAMONDBACKS
3.5-10x50 V-Plex Reticle RRP $361 - AUSVARMINT SPECIAL $250 (1 Item only)
http://ausvarmint.kjd84.com/forum/viewt ... =35&t=4589
Absolute bargain at the price and with a lifetime transferable warranty you will never need to worry about replacement .. although I don't think any warranty covers dropping the scope.
Either way a great scope at a low price.
cheers

I have a BSA Platinum 36 x 44 Target scopes ,made in Japan model. You can import them yourself from the US for approx $120 landed. They are great for the price, optics are just as good if not better than what was in your Tasco. The bonus is they have built in target turrents, no caps to looze.

Re: so i've busted my scope
You can get a cheap olivon or platninum nighteater for that money. If its a spotlighting scope you want, these havent failed me. Olivon 6-24x50AO with sunshade or the platinum nighteater 6-24x56AG model with 30mm tube and IR reticle and side focus. Sunshade included too. Ive just changed to one of these from the olivon and spotligting last night under the full moon i reckon i could have shot a fox standing on a ridge with no spotlight on it. For the price its very very clear and gathers light very easily. Its a huge step forward on the old model nighteaters.

Re: so i've busted my scope
should be able to get a Leupold VX1 shipped to your door from the optic zone for around $300-320 shipped to your door, as against $400 locally
What calibre is the rifle?

Re: so i've busted my scope
update:
FINALLY got permission to buy a new scope.... i just took delivery today. Japanese made TASCO world class target/silhouette 6-24 X44 $400
just looking at the scope i can not believe the difference in quality between it and the old "tasco" (authenticity is questionable) that wa made in china.
only one little problem.... now i dont have any rings... it seems the old ones that came with the rifle as a package were 25mm rings... not 1". perhaps it wasnt the drop that killed the scope but plain and simple stupidity!!!
anyone got any recomendations for rings? (weaver type base/rail). is there any that really stand out (good or bad) or are they all the same?
PS: 25mm KwikSite rings for sale/trade/swap

Re: so i've busted my scope
The only sizes of scope tube diameters that im aware of are 25mm/1 inch , 26mm some european scopes , 30mm and 35mm and i think there maybe a 40mm. But 25mm and 30mm are the most common. I hope this has answered your question. Ron

Re: so i've busted my scope
the new scope was bought from http://www.nvt.com.au" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
unfortunately i have had to run the elevation to its limits... below is a SSAA standard hundred yard sighter target.
Point of Aim was dead centre of the illustrated target, have not touched windage after boresighting.
