id choose a 6.5x55 seeing you have deer in the mix
but if you are set on a 25/06- go for it

for $2k you could just about build a custom gun

but KJD's 7/08 could do all you want as well and it's been built by a quality smith and will give years of service

Ogre,

You would recommend a 6.5 something for an elephant gun

mick,
The 25.06, 25.06AI are outstanding for long range varmit work .. they will take care of goats and pigs as far as you can hit them.
As for deer they are more than capable of dropping deer and are commonly used for deer in the USA.

25-06 would be pretty hard to pass up, shoot well with a variety of loads

And for that sort of money, you can get a very good 2nd hander, you couldnt possibly go wrong!

well been thinking about that over night

6.5x68 with a custom 160 grain Barnes monolithic solid doing 3100+ fps

that should go all the way into the skull for a clean kill

not my first choice for an elephant gun- i wont ever shoot a elephant- but certainly doable with something like that

The 25-06 is an excellent cartidge, flat and hard. And with a .204 already it fits perfectly in the middle of your next step up and third rifle which is likely to be one of the 30 cal's ...

I once cut a small tree down in three shots with a 25-06. Very impressed. I would love one in a ruger number 1 as a long range varmint gun. But i have no need for it. You should also see what is on my want but dont need list :D

yeah mate 25/06AI - actually i think that top group was the 85gn Nosler BT's you sent me !
it looks good and shoots great but unless you get it reamed at mates rates( i did !) its probably not worth the expense, plus the dies are dear as sin if you want a full set. but i still love it - fur to pizza with one finger
