Taipan hollowpoints

Anyone loaded the 53 or 55gr taipan hollow points in their 22-250? Im going to try them out as ballistic tips are getting way too expensive here. Also does anyone have a rough BC for them?

Hey mate, Ive used 60gr Taipan HPs in my 22-250, I couldnt tell you how fast they were going but they are shit hot accurate out of my rifle!

I used AR2209 and this shot really neat groups at 100m.

How much are you paying for BTs?

I bought some the otherday for a mate at a price of $25 per 100

They shoot about 1.2 moa at 200m in my rifle

Vmax are just under 40 bucks for 100. Noslers and sierras are about 37 from memory.

Im getting the 55gr hollow points or 53gr hollow points and shooting them with 2206H, nosler custom brass and CCI BR primers. Should they be just as accurate, I reckon i may just switch

Keep your eye out,some times you can get the bulk pack of 750 speer TNT 50gn for a good price,usually out of QLD.

I use Taipan's in my .223 and in my 22-250 they are a very good projectile and Australian made to say the least.

I loaded some of these the other day and was wondering the same, I then made the comparison against Sierra 52 grn match king, Berger 50 grn HP and Hornady 53grn HP.

I think the ballistic co efficiency is close to that of a Sierra match king, performance is about the same.

Chris, you cant shoot the 50gr TNT out of a 22-250 or 220 swift unless you load them down, they arent built for the high velocities.

you best bet is to buy in bulk, you could probably buy 500 BTs for $150

Agreed, very very patchy around here for supply, is why when i get some nowadays i like to buy in bulk, otherwise you just get a good load run up and find out you can't buy anymore then the hundred you just got, pisses me off .

So they claim but have any of you ever seen the "blue cloud" while using TNT's??

I have used them in a 223, 22/250, a 243 and a 6BR, a 6.5x55 and a 308

I want to try some 125 TNT's in my 30 BR

and I have NEVER seen the "blue cloud" from pushing them too fast

Ogre,ya beat me to the reply,me either........maybe in a fast twist they would fly apart..........sometimes it pay's to try thing's for yourself,it has cost me some hospital time and money over the years when I've been told "you cant do that"........might have been better of listening on a couple of occasions for sure .

One of my mates shooting a 220 swift said he has shot them a few times and threw the rest of the box out. He claimed they just wouldnt hold together

They are a softer pill, no doubt your mate was sending them through the tube at hyper velocities.

You can say that again mate, he loads em real hot. He said around 4000fps from the swift. I dunno much about the calibre, but its only supposed to have a couple of hundred fps over the 22-250 and that would make it a pretty strong load.

yes i have !
87gn TNT out of my 25/06AI, more of a grey i thought, just back it down a touch !
only .5 -1gn down stopped them popping, until they hit furr that is !

The 220 Swift according to Speer volume 11 credits the performance of the 22-250 at about 95% of the Swift.

There is not much debate between the two calibers except that brass for the 250 is notably cheaper.
