Re: Factory Varmint Rifle You Must Have?
I had my .204 XR-100 pillar and compound bedded from the start by Dave Stendell of KOPJE custom gunstocks and have never looked back.
They are a top bit of kit.!!

Tikka is a good, accurate & reliable starter rifle mate, no problems should be had if you get one - the guys here are not really 'Tikka People' though mate, more into the upper end and custom stuff as I am sure you have observed.
A 'dream factory rifle' for most here is one that can be pulled to bits, improved with new parts (lots of goodies available for Remingtons or Rem clone actions, played with for a while, then sold off so that another one can be bought and played with.
Shooters can be a strange bunch at times.

Think I'd be happy with a Savage model 25 in .204 R with the thumbhole stock.

I would like a Sako TRG in .338 Lapua, don't think I will ever afford one though.
Perhaps my next project built upon an Interarms Mark X.
Then again I could just opt for a Remington.
All of these rifles are getting expensive, we now need another safe. No doubt we will have to soon dedicate an entire bedroom for this stuff.

There is one is one of these in Rehbeins at the moment.Herbs wrote:Think I'd be happy with a Savage model 25 in .204 R with the thumbhole stock.
I reckon it feels a little nicer then the thumbhole stock that I have in .17HMR, even though they are supposedly the same.
I think there might be a little more length in the butt, and also the cheek peice sits a little higher.
It is much lighter then the HMR. It would make a great feild rifle.

Well, I'll jump in here. Just received an email from my local gunshop. My 6.5 x 284 Savage has just arrived.
Now the hard works starts---- working up loads, trying different projectiles, experimenting with powders, benchrest primers or standard ?
36 x Leupold or 42 x Nightforce------ it all gets a bit much
BUT I LOVE IT
Cheers Malcolm

Rinso: in answer to your question -- twice half it's length.
If I could, factory varmint, a Savage in 25-06.

Re: Factory Varmint Rifle You Must Have?
If its gotta be factory, perhaps the CZ 527 Varmint Kevlar in .243 topped with a Leupold VX-III 3-9x50 w/ M1 Turrents
If its a custom job Well, allow me indulge myself, please:
Remington 700 Varmint .243
Barrel cut at 22"
McMillian M40A-1 Stock
Leupold Mk 4 3.5-10 w/ M2 Turrents
Harris 9-13" Swivel.
Just what I think would be alright.

Re: Factory Varmint Rifle You Must Have?
You really, really did not need to tell me that. Soooooo tempted. Rehbeins isn't too bad, I bought a couple of .303s from Rob a couple of months ago, though his shop needs a bit of a refurb.Sir Snipealot wrote:There is one is one of these in Rehbeins at the moment.Herbs wrote:Think I'd be happy with a Savage model 25 in .204 R with the thumbhole stock.
