What bino's do you use

Good advice here - I have 2Xsteiner - 10X26 predator and 8X32 night hunter and Leica 8X32.


The Leica are the best but too expensive for me to drag through the dirt as I slither and take prone shots. The Steinter night high hunters are good - and the fixed focus is nice - to avoid having to focus all the time (making easy one hand scanning)and built farily tough.
The 10X26 predators are good enough but foggy on the edges and spend a lot of time focussing as I shift distances - good pocket binos.

I'd also consider a pair of Steiner military - I think they are good value since they are mass produced and pretty tough. There are good deals on ebay - but factor in the shipping costs which can be very high for some suppliers.

A good test of binos is to look at stars at night -for example I had not realised that most of the stars of Orions belt are actually clusters - not individual stars

The Steiner 8x30 Predator Pro's arrived from the optic zone a couple of weeks ago. Havn't used them while hunting yet.



I took them with me wood carting on the long weekend and gave them a test drive. Must say that i am very impressed it was a typical Southern Tablelands windy wet winters day with overcast and dark conditions.

The Steiners worked unbelievably well converting dark and dreary conditions into a clear and crisp field of view.

The binos will be complimented with a Blackfoot Bino harness next week

Can't wait to try them out when i am in the field with a rifle.

Steiner 7x50 Police... Had these about 4yrs. Will never look at glass the same again, it's totally killed my manners when I look through cheap glass. Using them in low light is where they excel

Hi as an aside keep an eye out for s/h carl zeiss jenoptems on E*ay. The optics though old hat are up there with the best and cheap as chips at around £50-£75 for 8x30's. Just watch out for jap copies.

I bought an ex-demo pair of Steiner Predator 10x42's off of opticsplanet.net for about $599, a bit more pricey than what your after, but well worth the extra dollars.........better to spend more and buy a good pair first time than buy a cheap pair and then have to outlay more dollars for a decent pair later on down the track. Never tried the Vortex, but I can definately recommend the Steiners...............good value for money.
