SSAA mag FX airgun review.

G"day All
It will be interesting to see how the article in the next SSAA mag pans out with the review of two of the FX airguns being reviewed.
Wonder if they will sample a heap of pellets and not just the rubbish.
Would be a good opportunity for lewis to send some samples for them to try and get some exposure.
Anyway we will wait and see.

The basic problem with the "experts" reviews of air rifles is that most of these guys have only used powder burners most of their shooting careers. Then when they comment on the air guns most of the chat winds up a comparison to the powder burners which to those in the know are sick of reading. Air rifles have developed to a point where they are in a major class of their own, and should be treated on that basis.

The last SSAA revew of an FX A/G was such a load of crap, I felt compelled to write and tell them I thought so. Needless to say I didn't receive a reply and have since canned my subscription & membership with them. I now only read Guns & Game magazine & have joined the NRA instead.

What a pathetic attempt at a review. Much more like one of those "infomercials" that seem to be so common these days.

Dennis, I find it hard to come to grips with the chasm that exists between what I think I know of high powered PCPs and what Brendon has projected in that article. "Infomercial" has the right ring to it and a tired one too. Well I guess that's it.......

I might drop in on you one day at Port. Our best friends live there and we owe them a visit and need to sit down and fine tune our next planned desert walkabout beyond the Corner Country in late September. If I drop by you would have a rifle and a couple of hours for us to waste at a range some time?

I liked this statement-
"Unlike rimfires,airguns are much more forgiving of changes of pellet weight and brand."
This comes from a review that stated he only used one type of pellet.
We all know that airguns are very selective of pellet weight and brand.
Where were the test tagets.??
They mentioned velocity and MPS but what about foot pound.??
Very ordinary as suspected it would be.

Now for the fun part..........
To be fair to the gentleman doing the FX review, I can rember when airguns would handle almost any kind of pellet. Shoot with accuracy? Well, not really. That was when I was a kid and there were still FX Holdens in Taxi fleets in Sydney. Things have changed since then and so have air rifles.
Somehow I get the impression that the reviewer was basing his opinions upon experiences he had with some of the more "ordinary" air rifles that he has "tested". Perhaps he should go back to testing his beloved powder-burners and leave the rather more sophisticated air-powered guns to someone who has had a lot more experience with them and apreciates their abilities and limitations, not to mention their often fikle apetite.
Aaaah, feels better with that off my chest.

Maybe not so Keith unless something has changed. IT requires a log in to access and they apparently do not have an account.
In March I wrote to Tim and Brendan, Managing Editor and Technical Adviser respectively.

Neither replied. However, I did get a short note ( included below ) from Kaye Jenkins, Associate Editor:
