My Izhmash

Post by killbz »

this is my Izhmash biathlon 7-2-KO

dont know if you can call it a varmint rifle but i got bored and took some pics of it for all who care. :)

Izhmash are a russian company and they make everything from cars, rifles and anti-air rockets.
The styling on the rifle is basic and simple and they have not payed much attention to details as the checkering is a little dodgy in spots and there are some small raised areas on the fore end of the stock. Other wise it is quite nice and i like it.

there are more pics i will post next
I a not game enough to take down the action out of the stock as i dont really know how to and get it back the way it was b4 so im not going to attempt it.

Hmmm, never seen real pics of one before (apart from advertisements) - it certainly does appear built to last. How does it shoot?

here is the accuracy of the Izhmash. this is my best group to date it is 5 shots at 50m. oddly enough my best groups were attained in less then ideal conditions.
Overall i like the rifle. I like the speed at which it is possible to reload due to the straight pull action.
I like how accurate it is (duh!!) and think it is the perfect rifle for me to learn on.
On another note the draw backs are
1. you have too take the scope off inorder to take out the bolt. the scope is in quick release mounts? and so far i dont think it will lose zero wafter taking the scope off and replacing it.(i had to fire one shot and adjust one click to rezero the first time and havent had to for other times after)
2. the scope can not be set forward anymore then it is with the rail it is on atm.could get another rail but dont want to fork out the $$ when i can live with what i got now. length of pull could be a tad longer gonna fix it soon.

It goes well with the 3-9x33mm Leupold VXII EFR that is mounted on it.
I like the rifle and will keep it till i shoot it out(however long that is)and then some
This is the rifle everyone has been telling me to keep in another thread and just thought i would post some pics

This is also the first rifle under my name as i am quite new to the shooting world (relatively i had my juniors but it expired when i turned 18 and i didnt have the money to renew it back then and so had to go thru all the bureaucratic bullshit to get my full license) i only went trap shooting a few times when i was on my juniors tho, my dad also got his licence at the same time is i got my junior as my granpa passed away and passed us his rifles so we rushed to get our lisence so we cold keep them. thus we got the guns in my signature except the CZ .22lr and the gamo600 and well this rifle looked at.

next i will prob do one of my other guns in the same way as this as we got a new camera and im still learning it so the pics may be better next time. Kinda rushed this one as i am tired. Will try to provide a more indepth look at it next time.

My LGS got a few of these in, and the general concensus from reports is that ther are very good shooters. Very good for the price.

I had a play with one in the shop, but thats as far as I took it!

Hi Killbz , i also have an izhmash but mine is the 7-4 which has a target/biathalon stock and fully adjustable trigger and comes with all the harness and other crap. Thats some good shooting there in the wind. If i knew how to post photos on this site id post some pitchures of mine. If you need any spare parts let me know as i am very good mates with the guy who imports these rifles into Australia. Cheers Ron

The accuracy looks good.
The Russkies make some tough and good gear.
I like the set up of the bolt it suits the purpose it was designed for.
The competitors in biathlon are some of the fittest people in the world.
All that sking and then have to drill in your shots.
These days if I have to run I'd have trouble holding minute of Buffalo.
Nice rifle killbz.

to add a photo, go to "post reply" and under the box where you write in the text for your reply, there is a section with the words "If you wish to attach one or more files enter details below" click on the browse button, select your photo, add a comment, click "add the file", and it should refresh the page and show up directly under the main text box as a drop down tab.

if however it says your pictures are to big or in the wrong format, then you should find your picture right click on it and go to "edit" or "open with..." select "paint" then you can either go to up to "file" and select "save as" which will allow you to save the picture again. When the save box pops up there will be a drop down tab at the bottom which should say " Save type as" choose the "JPEG" format. The picture should now be reduced in file size.

If the dimensions are to big then open your photo in paint again and use the "select" cursor. it should look like a dotted out line of a box. near the top left hand corner of the window. select the area you want to use and (the amount of picture you want to save) and right click it in the middle of the selected area and select "copy" from the menu that pops up. Open a new paint window from going thru the start menu or wherever the paint icon is. the program is PAINT and has the icon of a glass cup with a few paint brushes in it.
With the new paint window open right click and select "paste", the selected portion should appear in the new window. You can also resize this by going up to the top tool bar and select "image" click that with out clicking anywhere else as the picture still has to be selected. choose "stretch/skew" an up should pop a box with click in an appropiate change ie 70% into BOTH boxes of the stretch section, dont touch the skew section.
Save as above and you should be set!!
This is how i resize pics as my families new camera takes pics WAY TOO BIG even on the lowest settings which is the pics i took. I ended up have to cut and paste many sections together as i couldnt get them all on screen at once. there pro is a quicker way with some other program but i dont know how to use the other ones.
hope this helps you and others :) :)

Hi Killbz , thanks for the instructions when i get some free time on my hands il give it a go. Mine shoots very well also i havent got a trigger pull gauge to measure weight of pull, but rest assured its hairtrigger light. I have used it in competiton hunter class comp stripped to the bones to make weight and a airrifle type scope 6 power. But i have a mate thats willing to show me how to make my own stocks for competiton. I will ring my mate tommorrow and get you a price on spare mags both 5 and 10 shots. Il post some photos of mine in a day or 2. Ron

that is one of the reasons i actually chose this rifle was the trigger, i had played around with some other ones in the shop like the CZ's, kimber, t-bolt, and others but as the kimber was out of my price range it came down to the t-bolt and the izhmash (cz id didnt like cause the trigger was quite heavy) and the t-bolt i didnt the action felt a little rough ummm... it didnt go smoothly, i suppose it would have lossened up l8er but in the end the trigger on the izhmash won out, it was crisp and light compared to others i tried and just felt right. I know i made the right choice l8er as my bro bought a cz and ive been able to shoot them side by side and much prefer mine. accuracy was a lot better as well i reckon. tho the barrel in the cz was not floated.

Thats also what i should say about the Izhmash is the barrel is totally free floating. It has a Very nice trigger crisp and lite. accuracy you cant complain about, y father even commented on it after his first shot he just turned to me laughed and said "wheres the challange in that it just goes where you aim".

Another thing i remembered on the bad side is the magazines are synthetic a type of plastic that seems to be sturdy, it is pretty much a square plastic tube with a small metal plate on the bottom to hold the spring in. And the trigger guard is made of the same plastic which i dont really mind but i do prefer steel or at least metal. Although as this is a biathlon rifle it would need to be as lite as possible. I would weigh it but i dont have any scales suitable for it. The wood is oiled which is good as I HATE varnish. our little .22leveraction has a varnished stock and it just shows up a bunch of little dings and dents. Im not sure what sort of wood it is a nice color and grain. Also oddly enough this rifle did NOT come with sling mounts of any sort which i found odd in afterthought as it is meant to be carried around on a bi athletes back as he skis around Siberia. I had to get a front mount put on so as to mount a bipod. I think i got a bit ripped off for that as the bipod was a remington one for $150!! but i was charged $160 in the end for the bipod and labour as well as the sling stud. personally i reckon it should have been cheaper.

Another overall is "It works...and doesnt look half bad either"

Hi Killbz , i rang my mate Keith Anderson from Industec in regards to spare mags. He has plenty of both 5 and 10 shot mags the 5 shot mags are $25 each and the 10s are $35 each. Im sure if you where to buy a few he may knock a bit off if you where to ask him nicely. His a real nice bloke to deal with ,just mention you where speaking to me in regards to the mags. Im sure he will look after you. I tried to post photo but i really havnt given it a proper go, as you can see nothing happened. I will try again on the week end, it proberly dosent help i have slow dial up. Ron ps his phone number is 94762818
