My 1st go at paper punching.

Well this is my 1st go at paper punching with the HW80:


I have never paper punched at all.

I was lazy and did not freestand, instead I rested on top of a 'A' ladder that was chest high with a sofa cushion for support.

Lewis sighted the scope in for a longer distance.

Targets 1-4 were with the set trigger pull at whatever Lewis left it on.
I then adjusted the trigger to be lighter and tried to gently squeeze as well for the rest of the targetrs.

All of the fly shots were due to a heavy trigger pull - my fault as I was taking too long.

Lewis did a great job servicing my HW80 and tuned it with a Maccari Deluxe Kit.
I also got a Bushnell 4-12x44 scope and a Maccari Muzzle break fitted.

It was only 8m

I woke up this morning and I have a big red bruise on the shoulder!!!

I also had a few shots at 22m but it started to rain so I set up the 8m range

Is there any tips for the best way to paper punch with a magnum springer?
I know it hard to bench as the spring can action jerk the barrel.
Also what part of the finger do you use to pull the trigger? Tip, soft middle or near the 1st knuckle? I have longish hands and fingers and found that it affects my shots.

Best not to benchrest a springer.
As to what part of the finger to use I use the very tip of my finger, but that is me. There are a lot of different thoughts. Use what works best for you.
As for the red mark on your shoulder you should talk to my daughter (14) she shot 12 shots in rapid succession last weekend from a lever action 12g shot gun. Just hold it in tight, like you'd hold on to Elle.

Has anyone ever considered "air rifle benchrest"? It is a new sport / competition in the USA. It's shot over a distance of 25 Yards, 25 single shot targets in (I think) 25 minutes. 3 classes, one of them for "recoiling guns" which really means "springers".
It's a challenge, I can tell you!

If you were to bench a springer with only one part of the gun contacting a soft surface eg a cushion what part should it be the stock or the barrel?

Well theres my problem

The best way I reckon to bench rest a springer is to lay the back of your hand on a rest bag and lay the fore end of the stock in the palm of your hand, do not close your hand around the stock,
gently mount the butt to your shoulder get your sight picture right and squeeze off (Dont,t rush it! Be cool) your shot and let the recoil happen.
The big trick is to follow through! It takes a bit of practise but it sure pays off on the long shots.

I have owned 8 or so HW 80's over the years great rifle plenty of power accuracy and the trigger is fantastic.

That 80 should group like that at 30m. Use FTS pellets hold it loose and let it recoil. Place you thumb inline with the center of the cylinder. If you must bench rest it use a couple of rolled up blankets ,small sleepng bag etc and rest it closer to the trigger rather than at the end of the stock.
