Potent by name, Potent by nature: Aussie No.1 in Olympic rifle shooting
Most people won’t know who he is, but on Friday April 18, Australian Warren Potent equaled the world record score in Men’s 50m Prone Rifle.
In the lead up to the Olympics, there are several World Cup matches used as qualifiers. Potent had won World Cup Gold twice in the previous twelve months, in Sydney and in Bangkok.
In the Beijing World Cup round in April, Potent shot 599 (out of 600) in the qualification round to go into the final equal first. During the finals Potent put down a stunning 105.8 (out of 109) in a neck and neck final to take Gold from Thomas Tamas (USA) and equal the 704.8 world record, set by Christian Klees of Germany during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
Potent is currently ranked number one in the world in 50m Prone Rifle and has qualified for the Olympic Games in Beijing.

Hope he does well in the Olympics. It will be good if the media gives some decent coverage when he does get the gold.
