.204 loads

Post by Muttang »

While I don't have a reloading kit as yet, I have been buying bullet components here and there the last few week. I have some small rifle CCI BR primers, 32g Nosler projectiles and brass cases. I went in today to buy some .204 dies (i was after a set of three) however they did not have them instock. Went then to buy some powder, I was going to use AR2206 but since you can't really get that anymore I thought about AR2206H and AR2208... However I decided to buy the AR2219- $36 for 500g. I went for this powder over the 2208 as it can push the bullet faster with less powder. I was going to start my loads at 25.6g (3825fps) and work up to 27.5g (4030) Ref: Nick Harvey.

Does anyone have any load data for the .204 using this powder?

Hope to pick up a RCBS Rockchucker Kit for $500 soon.

G'Day
Not a commonly used powder for this calibre and I would doubt that anyone has used it so far as the cartridge is only relatively new on the scene.
You have made a bad decision, try to fill the case and forget about speed, If you cant hit them , it does not matter how fast it travels.
You should have listened to what you read here and purchased 2206H, the amount of powder you think you will save by a few grains is nothing.
Sorry for the bad news.

Thanks for those kind words Native..... If you have not tried it and you have not heard of others that have tried, how do you know it was a bad decision? I thought this sort of thing is what reloading was all about- trial and error.... It is noted on the ADI website to be good for the smaller calibres....

Sorry mate, did not want to come across that way.
It just that the trial and error has been done and the results are in-2206H.!!!
Theres a reason why no-one has tried it.

Sort of sucks as I had the 2206H in my hands and paid for that.... And then asked if they had the 2219 in stock, they did so I asked to swap it over... And I did...... So close..

You have it now so try it and see what comes.
I will almost bet you go back to 2206H.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

2219 is H-322, right? I use it for 32 V-maxes in my rifles, and have got groups as small as .25" with it. Nothing wrong with that, that I can tell :D In fact, that's my "go to" load for the .204, if it doesn't shoot that load well, something is amiss.

It does heat the barrel up pretty quick, compared to some other powders, but it's darned good stuff, don't feel bad using it. 2206H is also fine stuff, for most anything at all, but I do like the H-322 load a LOT. I have something like 300 rounds of it loaded for an upcoming prairie dog shoot. (27.5 H-322, 32 VM)

If you want to shoot 32's FAST then get some win 748, in my .204 it does 4100 at a canter, fills the case right up and delivers very good accuracy. A seriously overlooked powder for the 32's.

jeez I pity you blokes having to make choices about powder. last time I went into my local and asked for powder suitable for 223 and 204 all he had was one bottle of BM2. Because of transport issues he is struggleing to get it trucked up to Pt Augusta. This is a shame because very month or so six road trains packed full of explosives pass within 200m of his place on there way up to Olympic Dam.

Yep life sure is easier out here, dont have to waste time deciding which powder to use, no regrets that you picked the wrong one either
