Hunter class rifle.
Ok if I was to have a centrefire Hunter class rifle built would I be better of using,
1.Remington 700 (that I already have) as the donor action and build on that.
2.Stiller predator(have to purchase)to build on.
3.Forget about the whole thing and get another Rum,seriously what components would you use for the build, will likely go with the .30Br as the chambering either way.
Regards Chris.

hunterclass rifle
Chris,
Depends on which class you want to shoot. If its light class a Rem700 would be the go otherwise build a rifle to heavy varmint specs and shoot it at group and score.

Re: hunterclass rifle
Thanks Steve,I have shot a bit of RF BR and am having Shane build a LV centrefire,I will use it in Hv as well I suppose or for a while anyway.
I thought that if I had a traditional Hunter class rifle built I could use it in that class and use the LV ppc in the custom Hunter,no where near the ideal setup i know but as I am starting out in the CF side of competition I am trying to get as much comp time as I can without having 3-4 rifles.
Regards Chris.

Re: hunterclass rifle
Chris,
That's probably a good way of doing things.... I have my 30br barrel in a Stolle Panda action for Custom Class but its a pain the the arse changing barrels for it when you have 8 barrels...I have a trued 700 and an MBR laminated Procal stock sitting in the cupboard that I am going to put the 30br barrel in and just have it as a Custom Class rifle...will make it to 13.5lbs so it will make Heavy Varmint.

Re: hunterclass rifle
Steve, have you seen a Stiller Rattler reason I ask is at the local range on the weekend I mentioned that I am having a rifle built on a viper and that I was looking at a hunterclass rifle and a bloke said that the rattler was a repeater and were good.
I looked on Stillers web site but I am not sure that they will feed from a magazine,or as you said I should use the Remington 700,I already have the action and it would be cheaper to boot.
Regards Chris.

Re: hunterclass rifle
I'm using a Tikka 595 in 22/250 for my hunter class 30 BR.
It will enable me to have a functioning magazine in a single stack.
the 22/250 Tikka mag feeds the BR family of cases very well
I didn't know the rattler was a repeater action
I thought the only repeaters Stiller did were the Tac and Predator series
later

Re: hunterclass rifle
Ogre6br,I know next to nothing about the Rattlers and have looked at the Stiller web site and this is what I found.
"The Rattler is our Viper action modified to be used in the IBS or NBRSA hunter class. It is only 1.4 inches wide and has a minimal cutout on the bottom to make it legal and includes a follower and recoil lug. It has a flat bottom, relatively stiff cross-section, nicely beveled port and a durable hard anodized finish. It uses a bolt length the same as the short Remington action. It is the action to have for your hunter benchrest gun. Some of the long range pistol shooters also like it due to its smaller width".
Looking at the picture of the action it looks as if there rules are different to our's and the action is not designed to be a repeater.
Regards Chris.

Re: Hunter class rifle.
This is possable a little late but have just joind this forum and if you allready have the reminton action just put it in a benchrest stock with 24inch 17 twist barrel but remember Hunter/Class is 10lbs not 10.5lbs then have a tube in the but or better still on in the foreend as well and slip in some weights (up to 14lbs) and shoot in custom class as well it will shoot good enough.

Re: Hunter class rifle.
The predator action is supposedly built for varminting, slightly more tolerance to stand up to field shooting. I dont believe they are recommended as a target action but then I dont even know what "hunter class" is!!

Re: Hunter class rifle.
Here is a Hunter/Class 100 yard target Thr 200 yard target is about rwice the size and the idea is to get the center dot each time.
Harder than it looks.

Re: Hunter class rifle.
use your R700 action- grab a full bore barrel
and shoot everything for 110's through to 168 HPBT match projectiles in everything from Hunter to BR to Fly to 600 BR to 1000y stuff
Thats what I'm going to do with mine- just have to sort out my scope issue
