Just wondering what ammo the other guys running this rifle have been using.
I have been using the CCI V-Max and it shoots quite well. I also tried out some Whinchester 20gr hollow points but the groups open right out.
They are the only two types of ammo my LGS keeps for the HMR, so I am wondering if there is anything else I should be trying out.
Thanks.

Re: Savage BTVS .17HMR
TBH I don't really paper punch with mine, nor have I shot groups at 100m. My paper punching is restricted to initial ammo testing and sighting in - other than that I just hunt. At 50m mine shoots the Hornady Vmax pretty good - sometimes two or three through the one hole and the rest open the group up to 10mm or half and inch. 20gr XTP's also shoot about half an inch but the groups seem to be more circular rather than cloverleafs. It wasn't as fond of the TNT.
All I know is that all of it is plenty accurate enough for hunting.

Re: Savage BTVS .17HMR
It just depends on your rifle, my Marlin 617 shoots 17 hornady/17 Fed vmax and 20 wini JHP well but it shoots the JHP at 100 better than the others. Got four days coming up at bathurst this weekend and will be thining my father in laws rabbit population a bit ;)
