Hi,
Just wondering if the 700P in 223 (with the 1:9 twist rate - weight 9.0 lbs ~4.09 kg) will accurately shoot factory 50-55 grn ammunition?
Would I be better off with a 700 VSF or a VS SF II with the 1:12 twist rates and both 8.5 lbs ~ 3.86 kg in weight).
I'll be looking for a do it all rifle. A bit of varminting (foxes and rabbits), a bit of paper work and a bit of walk about fox whistling. I don't think a weight difference between all three rifles will bother me too much.
Cheers

Mine does, it shoots minute of rabbit with factories but it thrives on reloaded ballistic tips or v max. When it isn't doing that my son puts most of his 69 grain sierrias in the 6 at f standard.
They are are good rifle and outside adjusting the trigger nothing has been done to his.
I'd go with the 1:9 twist as it allows more options.
Have a good one,
Macca

Mate
It will shoot the the 50-55's. I have a Remigton LTR (selling) that is 1:9 and I bought some 50Vamx to test. Never have though, but I have read numerous reports that they shoot them fine!
Good luck!

I've seen write-ups in various magazines that say the fast twist barrels are great with light projies, ask Jimbo, I think he may have done such a test.

G'Day All,
I plan to (but as yet haven't had a chance) to try 50-60gn bullets out of my.223 1:8" twist 26" truflight barrel. I expect the faster twist to work and given the faster rev's that when it hits a varmint, the bullet will be more explosive than it normally would out of a slower twist barrel............
I'll let you know soon I hope
Cheerio Ned
