Should I?
I just got off the phone to a gun shop in Victoria.... they have one CZ550 lux in 9.3*62 left... allegedly one of the last left in australia.
I need a bigger gun than a 243 and I love the CZ's (Mod70's CZ550 is awesome) but i have not tried the hogs back stock like the lux has....
And I WANT a 9.3*62.... why... just coz i do really and want to be a bit different (no abolts in 270 WSM for me ) and it just has to be in a CZ550.
Failing that it will be a 30-06 for me.
So should I just go and bloody order the thing? I have the cash?

Re: Should I?
I think i read (uncle nick ask the gun editor about 12 months ago) that the 9.3x62 is just a necked up 30-06 anyway. grab the 9.3 and if it dosent work out rebarrel to anything in the 06 family. I doubt you would have troubles offloading a barrel chambered in that calibre.
just do it
just do it

Re: Should I?
Well if i couldn't find one i was going to find an old BRNO ZKK in 30-06 or 270 and have it rebarrelled to 9.3*62 any way.
Hey doc... i wonder how well it works on camels....

Re: Should I?
I got a custom 9.3x62 built by our resident gun plumber. Its a hell of a lot more gun than a 30.06 and capable of easily taking all game in Oz. Buy it! You wont even think of rebarreling to anything else.
Cheers

Mevo I think it would work fine on camels but you may want to marry into the sutan of brunei's family if your going to pay for all of the ammo you would need

Re: Should I?
Well doc, I am young, stupid, just coming out of my time as an apprentice sparkey and don't have a woman to keep me poor at the moment
It only eats about 55 to 60 grains of AR2208, AR2209 or AR2206H a shot, lapua brass is only $110 per hundred, although projectiles may be a little on the costly side, I have not seen them advertised.

Re: Should I?
Mevo, the 9.3X62 was brewed up by the German s for those settling in Africa, to handle stuff that the 8X57 couldn't; in a lot of African countries where anything less than a 40 caliber isn't legal for big game (and I mean BIG game) the 9.3X62 is ok.
The deciding factor is the range of projies available for it; for the big stuff (including camels!) get some Woodleigh 286 grain Powerpoints and they don't know what hit them.
in the latest gunsn'Game Errol Mason (the Sambar specialist) reckons Woodleigs are near perfect.
Incidentally the 7MM and 30 "Redneck" cartridges aJR, Tony Z and Eric G are doing so well with in LR BR are based on Lapua 9.3X62 brass.

Re: Should I?
Used to have one of those 9.3x62 Lux rifles mate. Bloody nice - recoil is easily manageable, but the stock gave mine a lot of muzzle rise so follow up shots were not all that quick. Good pick up, you will like it. Sportsmatch mounts will suit the dovetails and are very strong - highly recommended.

Re: Should I?
Now I have to do all the other stuff, like send off for a bloody PTA.
But I also get to chase up fun things like a scope, bore guide, cleaning rod, jags, brushes, brass, projectiles and some more powder
And the scope will have to be euro, I am thinking a Khales or meopta in something like a 2-7*32
