Newbie
Hi guys, this is my first post! been reading for a few months now, half the time i dono what the hell your all talking about but anyway!! im new to hunting and all that..still waiting for my licence and stuff, but ive been thinking about getting a .17 HMR been reading a fair bit about them, and it looks like a top starters rifle.
anyway, id like to know some price rangers. Ive been looking at these 3.
Marlin 917v
Savage 93R17-BVSS
CZ 452 Varmint
Anyone own these rifles? how do they shoot? and are they worth the money you payed for them?
oh and i was thinking of putting a Vortex diamondback 3-9X40 on top seeing that there cheap and have a lifetime warrenty! And are a very good scopes from what ive seen on the forums.
cheers.

G'Day mate welcome to the forum!
I reckon the hummer wouldnt be a bad place to start, the CZ is definately the go!
Im sure there is a few who would agree.
Knackers??

welcome mate, never seen any hummer that shot poorly so I think any of those three will do nicely, just find what it likes to shoot.

M70 Yep.
G'day copadingo, welcome to the forums.
Mate I'd have a close look and feel of all three rifles you have mentioned.
The CZ has a superior action IMO, put them side by side and you will see that.
The savage has a great trigger straight out of the box. Their all good and your choice of scope would sit well on top of a HMR. Hope this helps.

G'Day Copadingo
I have the cz varmint and it is a great little rifle, my mate has a marlin stainless synthetic in 22magnum and it is not to bad either as for the savage i have had no experience with them but have heard they are not too bad. Personally I think the CZ is better than the marlin in terms of overall quality and feel.
You cant go wrong with the vortex I have a vortex viper 3-9X40 on my camel gun and it is the best scope i own. I work my rifles and scopes hard and it hasnt let me down yet. they are the best value for money scope in the price range with optics normally associated with scopes costing several hundred dollars more.
cheers

Re: Newbie
I've got a CZ HairBear has a savage, when we shoot rabbits together its user error when there is a miss, both rifles are tops.
I dont like the marlin much simply because the few i handled in the LGS had loose rattly magazines. if you sign into the main site webpage (not the forum) you will see an article on the Marlin.
Welcome on board.

Second one is by Archfile!
That's two reviews of Marlin rifles.
I don't like them to be completely honest!
I'd go the CZ over all of them if you could afford it!!!

A case of eenie meenie miney moe I think with both Savage and CZ
Prices..well..shop around for the best price, let your fingers do some walking on the phone, but definately check them out side by side if possible and pick the one that suits you best.

Re: Newbie
Yeah i guess it dose. the only thing is if i go for a cz then i wont be able to get a scope to go with it! Plus im left handed, will it matter much if i use a right handed rifle? i could probly get use to shooting right handed anyway, cheaper!
Re: Newbie
a mate of mine is left handed and shoots with right handed guns and has no probs and he is quite quik with the reload to, he also has the marlin and it shoots well i have the cz and luv it.
Re: Newbie
Easy to spend money when it's not your own.
I now have too many riflles, bit of impulse buying soon after I got my licence.
Were a lot of mint ,really classy rifles to buy then. Don't regret the second , top quality Sakos that I bought; will never part with them.
Have never read anything other than a top review of a Cz ANYTHING! The SSAA .22LR range where I do a lot of my shooting has Club Cz's that are 20 years old and will still hit bullls , even with the cheaper Tasco scopes on them- however, it is a 50 metre range.
If you are just into to shooting, buy a CZ .22LR, the rifle will last for life and have use for the same period.
With HMR, would still go for CZ, unbeatable value for money .
Scopes, really just buy the best you can afford. With a .22LR or HMR, this may easily be more than or about the same cost of the rifle.
But , as with quality rifles, you should buy the best you are able at the time, and seek to retain the scope for , yes, life again.
I have purchased a number of the dearer Vortex scopes and have nothing but the highest praise for them. Value wise, in my , maybe not all, view, they are pretty hard to beat.
Good luck AND keep asking questions.
Plenty of members here know far more than me, and are only too willing to assist.
Good luck, and take your time.
