AR Field Target - Melbourne

Are there any field target clubs or places where people shoot regularly round the Melbourne area?

The local shooting range (SSAA on Princess Highway) has an air rifle section but I'm more interested in field target shooting...

I reckon you'd need about 50 metres or so... could be done inside, but it would be a lot easier (and nicer) outside.

They seem to really love field target in the UK but it just hasn't taken of here. Must be a lack of airgunners.

We had a visit from the Firearms Registry people at the shop today (they were on their way to a gun show down Newcastle way to offer advice etc.) and I asked about the range safety requirements for air rifle field target. The visitors knew about the sport, didn't think there was any real safety concerns and have promised to send me some info and the specs for the "safety template" that needs to be superimposed over a map of the shooting range. My guess will be about 150M in length and about 75M in width, depending on the spread of your targets. It could turn out to be a semi-circle with a 150M radius if there is a wide spread of targets.
With luck I should hear back in about a week or so.
With that info you should be able to approach any range manager and see if they will let you play a new game. Afterall, shooting is suposed to be fun, isn't it?

I know you can use .22 LR at springvale- so airguns must be under that requirement.

What equipment is required for FT??

How had is it to make yourself??

If we offered to provide the equipment and there was no cost to them I thing the SSAA springvale might be worth approching.

or maybe the melbourne international shooting complex under the westgate bridge...

predator -where are you located- roughly and we can see where is best to try and get it up and going.

if the overlay isn't to large maybe my aunts 70 odd acres down mornington way might be a goer.

Now we are thinking!
It's a pitty that Highland Sports don't bring in the new Gamo FT targets yet. They have a "rat" and a "Squirrel" but there are others becoming available in the US at the moment.
The mechanism is simple enough, all it takes is time to do the cutting and bending. Plenty of target face designs are available on the 'net.

If you want some plans and instructions for making some ft targets, pm me and I'll email them to you, you'll need something that will read dxf files and pdf files tho'. If you have got a tame engineering company thats got a laser cutter then all the better, as the cutter should read straight from the dxf file.

What about state forrest?
You can shoot deer etc in them so why not air rifle at targets?
You could pick a location and just all turn up. lay out the targets and off you go.
Could even make a week end out of it. For us Ausvarminter members.

With a bit of thought you could make it real interesting.
