Weihrauch HW35

Hey blokes. Just bought a HW35 for my son & I

What are your thoughts regarding this brand & model? Is it enough to down a rabbit or fox(20-30m) with a head shot(premium pellets).

I think I heard some where that this model has been around for years, because of it's time proven design. How true is this? Any reviews getting around?

The HW35 is a nice airgun but it is no powerhouse.It does about 740FPS tops in .177 and about 620 in .22.Rabbits are possible with the .22 but at less than 20M with head shots.
Foxes are not considered airgun quarry.
The HW35 has been around since the 50's.

I also have a few extra long 24 or 27gn's(cant remember exact weight & brand) lead pellets that we want to test

. Anyone know more about these?

Also. What are the deadliest .22 pellets getting around these days?

I've been off the A/Rifles for about 20 years now, so advice is most welcomed

By the way it's .22 cal.

Lewis, is there allot of difference between the HW35 & one of the 800fps .22 HW's. Would one notice in the field?

Whatever pellets you have melt them down and make sinkers out of them.
Ring lewis and get some beeman FTS.
I doubt if you have pellets weighing that heavy, honestly put them on a powder scale and all will be revealed.
Even the heaviest pellets in .22 weigh around 20-22 grns.
I may be totally wrong and I am sure lewis will set you in the write direction.
Congrats on the HW purchase I have not seen that model but have had and seen a few HW and they are top kit.

Are they H&N Rabbit?
Whatever they are,they are WAY too heavy for anything but the mostr powerful PCP.
I suggest Beeman Silver Bear Hollow Points 12.65 gns and Damien's recommendation,Beeman FTS which weigh 15.0 gns.
The HW35 will not like anything heavier,even in top condition.
An HW80 .22 will drive Silver Bears at about 800FPS for 18FP Muzzle Energy
An HW35 drives them at about 600FPS for 10.1FP.
HUGE difference.This would probably mean that the HW80 has more velocity/energy at 50M than the 35 does at the muzzle.

Lewis, maybe we should go with a HW80 then? Sounds like the 35 is mainly a bird/target practice rig?
My son can just pull down the 35. Is the 80 that much more?

What do you reckon. Should we stick with the 35 for targets, birds & a rare rabbit. Or just get into an 80 & be done with it?

Why not try a R9.
Sweet rifle and very capable.
how old is your young bloke ??
Most of the upper scale AR's are 30-35 lb cocking effort.

How much are the R9's?

Are the Beeman's a quality rig like the Weihrauch's. Not being smart here, just don't know about them.

Just turned 12, but not that strong.

Go to a site called airgun forum54, it will fill in alot of gaps for you.
The beeman and weihrauch are made in the same factory.
Very much the same gun to look at.
Very high german quality.
If you buy a beeman you get the best after sales sevice in the country, ( Lewis).
Your son should be able to cock an R9, I think they retail for around $700, talk to Lewis and he will be able to fit you up to your budget.
Where do you live.??

Buy the R9 with a kit and several thousand JSBs from Lewis. My wife and daughters use mine all the time and love it, just as easy to cock as my BSA Supersport. The only thing that will stop him shooting is if he runs out of pellets.
Spend a little with Lewis and avoid any future disappointment

Hi Tez,
Well,if you want to hunt,the HW80 is a much better choice.
The 35 is nice and can be made to shoot very sweetly but nothing will get it up to HW80 performance.While it shares the same bore,it has a much shorter stroke.
The HW35 has a jointed/articulated cocking lever while the HW80 has a one piece,so they cock about the same.
I have two preowned HW80's in stock and one is .22.Both have been rebuilt by me and have full Maccari tune kits for smooth shooting and more power.
You can have the HW80 .22 for $595 including 1000 pellets,case and maintenance kit.
